Data Specialist, LinkNYC

Intersection is looking for a cross functional data generalist to help plumb the depths of our operational telemetry on the LinkNYC platform. You’ll join a small,dedicated team working to bring over 5,000 free Gigabit wi-fi and communication stations to citizens and visitors on the streets of New York City, helping to bridge the digital divide and build a first of it’s kind municipal-scale technology platform.

Your first order of business will be to lead the design, engineering, and assist in implementation of dashboards and visualizations of system health and utilization. From there we’ll look to take a deeper look at our analytics for insights that will allow us to optimize the system and user experience, and inform our future product and deployment roadmaps. Longer term, you’ll work with our development teams to guide the collection and analysis of environmental sensor data as our platform matures.

Key qualifications:

  • Experience with pattern recognition, natural language processing, and mining of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data 
  • Experience with large log data processing and analysis tools, such as Splunk, ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana, etc. 
  • Experience in data mining and predictive analytics using large data sets. 
  • Experience with data visualization and geographical mapping of multiple related data sets in a meaningful way 
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to work with incomplete and messy data to extract usable information


  • Bachelor’s degree in CS/CE, EE, mathematics, or statistics, or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree or higher preferred.
