There is a critical moment—between the news events, viral videos, speeches, and debate performances that captivate America—when a college student decides to phone bank, a veteran decides to canvass, or a grandparent decides to support the future we all want for the next generation. These people turn to Hillary for America's website, apps, and volunteers to learn more about how they can get involved.

Our tech team needs to produce reliable systems that empower our organizers, volunteers and analysts to work efficiently, while supporting the campaign's spirit of exploration as we search for new ways to engage every voter.

Hillary for America is a strongly data-informed campaign working to get the first woman president elected. Our analytics data is stored in a central warehouse with a dedicated team of experienced analysts using it daily. This data is critical to the campaign, so we need to make sure our cluster is healthy and used efficiently. This project manager role will be responsible for working across engineering, operations and analyst teams to accomplish this.

 

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Quickly learn optimization best practices for our analytics data warehouse
  • Work with individual analysts on ways to increase their query performance based on these best practices
  • Lead outreach efforts to proactively educate analysts on best practices while not detracting from their proactively
  • Proactively analyze cluster queries for optimization wins and triage common cluster performance issues
  • Be the voice of the data warehouse user for our tech team in matters of cluster reliability and optimization. Aggregate pain points into actionable needs
  • Perform day-to-day cluster hygiene tasks such as onboarding/offboarding users and proactively working with users to clean up unused tables

 

Requirements:

  • Fluency in SQL
  • Strong 1:1 and large team communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience in a role with a software development or analyst organization involving many incoming tasks requiring prioritization, triaging, and aggregation with many stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively in challenging, high-tension situations

 

Preferred Skills & Background:

  • Significant experience working with an analytics-focused database such as Vertica, Teradata, ParAccel, Redshift, Hive, Dremel, or BigQuery
  • Scripting experience, ideally with Python or Ruby
  • Significant experience in a large-scale education/training role with geographically diverse teams
  • Basic statistical or analytical training or education.
