Employee retirement results in our search for a deputy warden – operations at the Blair County Prison. Our hire will oversee fiscal-, physical-, and security-related operations of the facility; assist the warden with supervision, motivation, and evaluation of facility staff; and ensure care and custody of male and female inmates and staff.
Essential duties include monitoring of expenses and contributing to preparation of budget; inspecting buildings and grounds, camera surveillance equipment, fixtures, and telephone system regularly, and following up with appropriate personnel to achieve improvement; continually monitoring inmate and staff activities; logging findings and addressing areas of weakness; ensuring adherence to established safety procedures; ensuring compliance with facility, labor, legal/regulatory, and employee policies and procedures; supervising assigned personnel; organizing or conducting training for staff; preparing and maintaining reports and documentation; and acting on behalf of warden as directed.
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma or GED and have five years’ progressively responsible leadership positions within a correctional facility; bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, management, or other directly related field is preferred; comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of investigation, recordkeeping, security, and supervision of inmates and personnel; demonstrated experience recognizing and maintaining confidentiality; proficient interpersonal relations and communications skills (both written and verbal); initiative and problem solving; attention to detail and accuracy; computer literacy; basic math skills; and ability to work long hours, possibly across all shifts, on call, or on an as-needed basis than may result in working up to 16 hours consecutively.
Competitive benefits package starts first of the month following 45 workdays and includes 90% employer-paid PPO healthcare with vision and three-tier prescription components, defined benefit pension plan, defined contribution plan, supplemental dental and vision, sick time, and ample time-off provisions. Starting salary range is $45,000 to $50,000 for a 35-hour workweek.
