Vox Product is looking for a talented and motivated designer to join the Brand Development Team.

You’re a smart, self-motivated, creative problem solver who cares deeply about developing a voice and visual identity for new brands while helping our current brands evolve and grow. You have a passion for pushing visual design, and for creating engaging online brand experiences. This position will work on all of our brands. The Designer will work closely with a cross-functional team that includes a design director, product manager, designers and developers to execute beautiful, data-driven design and seamless user experiences from inception to final product. The designer in this position should also expect to interact with editorial and revenue stakeholders on a regular basis.

Big responsibilities

  • Produce representational mocks based on research, data and analytics to communicate ideas to stakeholders and developers
  • Work with a team of designers to define and maintain visual style guides for each of our brands
  • Execute research plans that involve competitive analyses, stakeholder and user interviews and be comfortable presenting findings
  • Participate in group brainstorming, while also having the ability to prepare ideas for brainstorm independently
  • Develop and evolve both new and existing visual brands
  • Set goals and participate in project planning with a team
  • Push yourself to think about design as a system
  • Work with a team of designers, developers and product managers to design, prototype and iterate upon new and existing brands
  • Be an advocate for design internally and outside Vox Media
  • Take feedback from designers, team members, and stakeholders on the fly
  • Connect, converse, and collaborate with teams and individuals across all of Vox Product to learn, tackle new initiatives, and meet unexpected challenges
  • Stay on top of trends and developments in online media and brands to product thoughtful and fresh experiences
  • Leverage data and user feedback to iterate and improve upon our brands and user experiences
  • Keep skills fresh and perform excellently as an individual contributor on projects

Essential Skills

  • Have a comprehensive background and interest in brand development
  • Be able to communicate strong design skills and sensibilities
  • Have strong background and familiarity with typography, color and how accessibility applies to each of these concepts on the web
  • Be skilled in Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign and comfortable in HTML and CSS
  • Be a self-starter and make decisive decisions when a project calls for it
  • Understand how to analyze, communicate and use data and user testing to inform work on brands
  • Thrive and maintain a sense of humor when faced with design and time constraints
  • Have a diverse portfolio of work
  • Help us define and redefine brand processes by understanding the importance of documentation

Bonus points

  • Prior experience on a remote team
  • Experience with user testing and prototyping
  • Experience with HTML, CSS and Javascript
