Melodics was conceived by Sam Gribben, ex-CEO of Serato, in the summer of 2014. Having finished up at Serato after a decade at the helm, Sam was ready for something new. He’d worked with some of the biggest artists in the music world, and with the international companies that built the instruments and controllers they used. Along the way he noticed how important pad and cue point drumming was becoming in the overlapping worlds of DJing and production. An idea was born.

Our product is shaping how the world learns to play musical instruments. We want to enrich our world with music and make it accessible for everyone. Melodics is entering a new phase. We’ve proven the core concept, and we’re switching gears from start-up to scale-up. Our team is currently almost 40 people strong, and looking to nearly double by 2022. Our three-year strategy includes some big goals, and we need you!

Design at Melodics:

We are a small (but growing) team, and this position is a chance to be part of it all. Good design is a hugely important part of what we do, and you will be asked to have opinions, communicate ideas, advocate on behalf of the audience, understand business objectives, listen to team members, quantify when needed, and make gut calls.

You’ll be providing design support to the marketing, social, customer success and content teams. They'll be working on ongoing week-by-week output for our social channels, one-shot campaigns supporting our industry partners, and long-term projects facing multiple channels.

There's the opportunity to inform the company-wide design direction, and we're confident it'll be exciting work.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone with skills and interest in gaining skills in the following areas:

  • You’re familiar with the Adobe suite of products – Illustrator, XD, Photoshop, Premiere – and have validated views about the tools you use
  • You feel that your communication and collaboration skills are your superpower
  • You’ve contributed to or led a design team for a commercial product or website, and can show examples of their impact
  • You have a willingness to experiment, and are comfortable asking questions to clear up ambiguity. Ideally you can point to some projects – work or personal, design-based or something else entirely – that demonstrate this
  • You’re familiar with web technologies – you don't have to be able to code, but you know the basics
  • You have a strong drive for quality, for our customers
  • You have experience in design for social, and user-facing communications
  • You’ve provided copywriting support on professional projects
  • You have a broad understanding of digital marketing (we have specialists in the team, but it’d be helpful if you have a base understanding)
  • Video production/editing experience a bonus

The absolute most important attributes are a drive to play with ideas, figure things out, ask questions, and be confident in your output.

An interest in music, music education, game design, persuasive technology or adaptive learning would be beneficial.

The position is a permanent, full-time role based in Auckland, New Zealand. While we have a lot of flexibility when it comes to WFH, we are looking for someone to be based in our office on Karangahape Rd for part of the working week.
