Job description

We have multiple development, staging and live environments, both in an on premise data center and in AWS.  We’ve got teams moving in different directions, discovering different ‘best practices’ and implementing them.  We have a data center environment that is undergoing a transformation; we have an AWS environment that needs attention.  There are build, deployment, compliance, security and automation needs that are addressed differently by each team, and those needs are different depending on which environment they live in.

In this role, you would be responsible for helping to unify efforts through automation and standardized approaches across all of the teams, working with development and operation teams to push and pull best practices to/from them.


Responsibilities

  • Automate and manage multiple cloud based environments within AWS
  • Work on a small team of DevOps engineers
  • Have a strong belief in and willingness to promote a DevOps culture
  • Work as an operations engineer in the development teams to facilitate best practices for security, performance, scalability, and high availability
  • Participate in stand-ups, retrospectives and cross-engineering team meetings
  • Automate the provisioning and configuration of our systems architecture
  • Assist our development teams with continuous application deployments
  • Participate in on-call production system support

 

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience in one or more of C#, ASP.Net, Java and/or experience with Unix/Linux systems with scripting experience in Shell, Perl, Ruby, or Python
  • Experience in software, systems, networking, hardware, logistics and operations or capacity planning
  • Understand the overall system architecture, clients, features and service dependencies
  • Expertise in problem solving and analyzing global scale distributed systems and critical production service environments
  • Capable of technical deep-dives into code, networking, operating systems and storage
  • Strength in Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Hashicorp Terraform, AWS Cloudformation, or similar tools
  • Understanding of cloud based infrastructure modeling for dynamic scalability and performance
