Who you are?
You are a DevOps Engineer who is very familiar with AWS and Terraform. What we mean by that is you can write well-organized Terraform code, you’ve read the Terraform documentation a couple of times, and you know how to use the AWS provider to manage IaaS and PaaS. You have experience writing production code, you understand what a Terraform module is, and more importantly how to structure a large project. You are incredibly clear about what a provisioner is, and remote state management isn’t a foreign concept to you.

You have a solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and aren’t confused by what they mean. You have experience in setting one up. You have a good understanding of Docker technologies and how to run containers in AWS EC2 and AWS Fargate. You have experience with Unix shell and are comfortable with the AWS CLI. More Unix shell experience is always welcome, of course.

You have about 2-5 years of Terraform programming experience and at least a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.

If you have little Terraform/AWS experience but you’ve made a switch between Infrastructure as Code tools or cloud providers many times in the past, awesome! We are still very interested in speaking with you.  Please send specific examples of these switches as part of your application.

What you will be doing?

  • As a DevOps Engineer, most of your daily work will involve maintaining, evolving, and improving our existing Terraform based infrastructure. We have a sizeable amount of Terraform code. You’ll engage in new projects, any new services we deliver to customers – all built by you using Terraform in a modular and maintainable fashion. You’ll proactively identify performance improvements in areas like responsiveness, availability, and scale. You will set up monitoring and alerting, as well as troubleshoot problems with distributed systems in terms of throughput, utilization, and configuration.

  • Our infrastructure stack is

  • Terraform for all infrastructure management.
  • Most of our apps and services are on AWS Fargate, with a few EC2 instances for things that don’t work well on Fargate.
  • AWS CloudWatch, SNS, New Relic, and for monitoring and alerts.
  • S3, Postgres (RDS), Memcached, RabbitMQ, AWS Elasticsearch Service.
  • VPC, Route 53, IAM, ALB/NLB, Security Groups, and Secrets Manager for networking and security.
