DevOps Lead

Surry Hills, Australia

Rokt is a team of extraordinary people pioneering e-commerce marketing, connecting brands with consumers when they are in a buying state of mind. With 7+ offices around the world, Rokt is made up of teams of Rokt’stars - passionate, smart and curious people who love to collaborate. At Rokt we help our clients and partners find new audiences, grow their revenue and create more meaningful relationships with existing customers. We deliver powerful and significant results.

The role of DevOps Engineer is suited to a candidate who comes from a software development background, with hands-on experience coding modern Continuous Integration & Delivery pipelines in fast-moving and agile environments. You will be building tooling for and supporting ~65 Engineers who work in a range of programming languages (C#, Python, Clojure, TypeScript, etc) and deploy to AWS using traditional VMs, containers, and serverless architectures.

The right candidate will understand our need to deliver business value fast - enabling our Engineers to deploy new features to Production environments multiple times a day, with a high degree of autonomy and minimal ‘red tape’, while building sufficient ‘safety’ in our pipelines to prevent negative outcomes, in addition to operational monitoring and alerting practices.

Reporting to one of the Heads of Engineering, a successful candidate will furthermore be responsible for coaching our DevOps engineers, reviewing code quality in pull request, planning sprints, making architectural decisions, and has a good understanding of cost, reliability, availability, and scale-ability trade-offs.

This role will provide the successful candidate with professional growth, with a real opportunity for career progression as we continue to scale the business. The Rokt engineering team will grow by ~50% next year as we more than double our investment in our capability.

  • Lead daily standups, sprint planning and retrospectives
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for junior Engineers
  • Peer review code of your team members
  • Write code for complex tasks
  • Solution architecture and design for DevOps tooling and network infrastructure
  • Provide feedback on architecture proposals from other Engineering teams

You are:

  • Inquisitive - well aware of what is going on in the technology landscape and new patterns and practices that are being established
  • Inspiring - coaching and encouraging Engineers to be the best they can be at their craft
  • Collaborative - listening to and respecting the opinion of others; working to achieve the best outcome for the business
  • Pragmatic - creating finished products that delivery business value asap
  • Autonomous - you design it, you build it, you deploy it, you own it

You know:

  • Coding languages and best practices - particularly Python and related test frameworks; any C# and TypeScript knowledge is a plus
  • OS scripting - we love Linux / Bash but still have plenty of Windows / PowerShell
  • AWS cloud - we are into modern AWS Cloud architectures, well beyond “lift-and-shift“ to EC2
