Requirements

ALL.SPACE is seeking a Digital Systems Engineer to drive the development of the central controllers for its phased-array systems. The successful candidate will take ownership of the current design and its future iterations. This is a multi-faceted role requiring knowledge of digital and analogue electronics, RF, power supplies, software, and firmware.

The successful candidate will have digital communication system design experience. They will have expertise in at least one of the disciplines mentioned above but should be conversant in the rest, or willing and able to learn quickly to become conversant.

The successful candidate will proactively apply their experience and critical thinking skills to identify potential problems and solutions that others might miss. They will aggressively pursue challenging goals, make accurate key decisions, and strive for excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse system requirements
  • Analyse existing design and respond to requests for change
  • Create requirements for sub-systems
  • Design and test sub-system in area where the candidate is an expert
  • Characterise the performance of the designs they are responsible for
  • Participate in test definitions and system-level activities

Requirements

Education

  • BSc, MSc, or PhD in Electrical, Communications, or related engineering discipline

Required skills

  • Robust electronic engineering skills
  • Digital electronic design
  • Signal processing theory of RF signals, ADC and DAC
  • 2+ years of industry experience in electronics
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles

Other Abilities

  • Proactive “can-do” mentality
  • Ability to present information and communicate using well-thought-out responses, verbal and written
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel on request (not expected to exceed 20%)

The following skills and experience are advantageous

  • Digital signal processing (DSP)
  • Schematic capture in Altium
  • Development experience with embedded processors running RTOS or bare-metal
  • Xilinx FPGAs (RFSoC, MPSoC, Ultrascale+, etc.)
  • Xilinx design suite (Vivado, Vitis, Petalinux, etc.)
  • SPI, I2C, CAN, UART, JESD204C, Ethernet (10GbE, 100GbE)
  • VHDL programming
  • C programming
  • Radio data transfer interfaces and protocols like Vita 49 or eCPRI.
  • Use of bench equipment (e.g. spectrum analyser, oscilloscope, RF signal generator, network analyser)
  • Microsoft Office Suite
