Digital Video Architect

AccuWeather is seeking an experienced Digital Video Architect to be part of our team in charge of developing and managing our end-to-end digital video workflows and services. We’re looking for a creative thinker who can work between multiple departments, including external vendors, digital developers and broadcast engineers, to update and maintain our ever-expanding video workflows. AccuWeather's digital properties are among the most popular in the country and we pride ourselves in delivering incredibly fast and accurate content to millions of people every day.



  • Prototype, develop, engineer and manage end-to-end video architecture services, including:
    • Video acquisition from both internal and external sources
    • Video transcoding and processing
    • Video distribution to both internal and external platforms
  • Support life-cycle management for all video workflows and systems, recommending and implementing updates as new products and services become available
  • Interface with video technology vendors to implement seamless transitions between products, ensuring technology continuity and stability between internal and external systems
  • Interface with various internal departments such as product, operations, broadcast engineering, development and IT to provide key architecture, engineering and solutions for evaluating, implementing, and testing any impacts to the digital video platforms
  • Update software products to keep pace with evolving markets and technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or broadcasting preferred
  • Must have 3+ years of experience with a major OVP such as Brightcove, Ooyala or thePlatform
  • Working knowledge of broadcast engineering is preferred
  • Must have 3+ years of experience working within an Agile environment
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Creative problem-solving is a must
  • Must have extensive working knowledge of multimedia delivery protocols and containers for live and on-demand streaming, including Multicast, RTP, RTSP, MPEG-DASH, MP4, HLS and Smooth streaming
  • Application/ Content/ Proxy Middleware (Client Server) understanding including storage systems and content management systems (CMS)
  • Familiarity with editorial workflows is preferred
  • Proficiency in Java preferred
  • Must have working knowledge of captioning protocols, software and systems
  • Experience with agile software development methods
  • Demonstrated experience in developing against and maintaining large, transactional, enterprise class systems
  • Ability to work independently on projects as assigned
