Director, Advanced Engineering

Overview
The Director, Advanced Engineering manages the early conceptualization and concept development activities, focusing on, but not limited to, advanced vehicle architectures, innovative system technologies and system designs for chassis, EV-powertrain and advanced body structures/systems as well as their integration on multi-system and vehicle level.
 
The individual will develop innovative solutions and system designs to lower cost & weight while improving functional compatibility and efficiency and improving the ratio of interior space/utility to vehicle footprint.
 
The Director, Advanced Engineering will report to the VP, Vehicle Engineering.
 
Responsibilities
·        Delivering advanced systems and vehicle concepts for cost-, weight-efficiency as well as highest possible degree of geometrical und functional integration
·        Maintaining the best possible overview on vehicle technologies, consumer/customer trends, mega trends influencing changing product definitions and features as well as regulatory requirements regionally and globally
·        Working with internal and external research partners, NGOs, GOs
·        Building and leading Advanced Engineering organization
·        Experience in selecting, managing engineering vehicle architectures and/or body, chassis, EV-powertrain systems
·        Leading hiring activities of all Advanced Engineering personnel
·        Working in seamless alignment with other Interior and Exterior Design, D&R functions, VI, Safety, Electrification and Advanced Manufacturing
·        Concept development, production engineering, launch
·        Planning and program management experience
·        Presenting to investors and executive/senior management frequently
 
Qualifications
·        Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines
·        Min. 10 years of Advanced Engineering related responsibilities
·        5+ years of experience leading Advanced Engineering teams
·        Awareness of automotive startup environment and the unique/inherent opportunities
·        Positive attitude and constructive approach while interfacing with peers/suppliers
·        Experience in selecting, managing engineering vehicle architectures and/or body, chassis, EV-powertrain systems
 
Preferred Qualifications
·        Proven success in high-pace environment which demands adaptiveness & flexibility
·        Very good industry understanding regarding competitors and customer trends
