Director, Consumer Research + Audience Insights

Launched in 2013 by eBay founder and philanthropist Pierre Omidyar, First Look Media was created with the belief that independent perspectives are vital to both a vibrant culture and a thriving democracy.

First Look operates as both a studio and digital media company. As a studio, we develop, produce and finance content for all screens and platforms including feature films, television, digital series and podcasts. As a media company, we are finding new ways to connect compelling independent creators with passionate audiences through our own properties and on media platforms of our partners.

The Position:

This role will be a founding and foundational member of First Look Media’s Research & Insight team. The Director will support efforts across content formats including feature film, television, digital, social and mobile. The role will also span the scope of FLM’s efforts across both programming and business divisions. This role will be responsible for providing competitive and marketplace intelligence. This individual will compile and analyze internal and third-party data from numerous sources and will need to provide actionable and succinct insights.

 Responsibilities:

  • Create, analyze, and distribute regular reporting across FLM properties as well as the overall landscape
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses on FLM consumption and engagement and the competition
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including programming, existing properties like The Intercept and business efforts
  • Assist with testing and evaluating new vendors and data sources
  • Keep up with digital and social trends. 

Background & Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of digital analytics and/or social analytics experience. Consumer Insights research experience preferred. Digital experience a must.
  • Bachelor degree or higher.
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Understanding of the digital and social industry
  • Proficiency in internal web tracking solutions (Google Analytics), syndicated research sources (comScore Media Metrix, Nielsen//NetRatings, etc), social media measurement (Sysomos, ListenFirst, Nielsen Social, etc), 3rd party research sources (eMarketer, Parks & Associates, Gfk, Forrester, etc), and native social media measurement tools (Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics, Youtube Analytics, etc).
  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytical, written, and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Ability to spearhead a project, troubleshoot, and thoroughly manage it through to completion.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt, and transition across various products and tools.
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail.
