Spring is hiring a

Director, Copy & Brand Voice

New York, United States

Imagine being able to access 1,000s of brands from one location anywhere you go. And then pair this idea with beautiful design, curated content and amazing customer service.

Well, this is Spring: we're taking the idea of a 24/7 marketplace and using this platform to enable brands and consumers to connect in new ways. Founded in 2013, Spring has quickly become known as the place to shop... and we've seen this in our rising number of users and brand partners. We currently have 90 employees and have big plans for growth. We're a mobile first company that cares about design, about delighting our customers (brands and consumers) and about building great products.

From day one, our Words Team has been a key contributor to building Spring’s voice and brand identity. If you a Spring customer, or if you follow us on social media, it’s likely you’ve seen our playful (often ‘punny’) remarks about fashion, brands and products. This has helped us build a presence and voice in the market, as well as communicated our values as a company to our customers.

As we grow, Spring has big plans for this team. We want to appeal to a broader audience, both on the consumer side and the brand side. To do this, our editorial roadmap must evolve and reach new audiences. We’re expanding our presence via blogs, new partnerships with brands, better SEO and better content within the apps themselves. As we’re expanding our plans for this team, we’re also expanding our Team. Spring is looking for a Director of Copy and Brand Voice. This person will join our Editorial Team and oversee our existing copy roadmap as well as own this function’s future strategy.

This is a senior role where you will both write and edit, manage and mentor, and provide tactical and strategic insight.

What you will do:

  • Oversee and lead all copy and brand voice work for product, marketing, community/support, editorial, social media, and business development
  • Spend most of your time editing, contribute written words as needed
  • Manage our existing Copy Team and own headcount strategy as the needs of this team grow
  • Assist with our social media strategy by providing guidance, ideas and the actual words that go into our content
  • Develop — and kindly enforce! — copy best practices and a Spring editorial style guide. Ensure these evolve as our own strategy evolves
  • Partner with the Marketing Team on overall SEO strategy. Provide the words and content as needed
  • Work on editorial content and concepts as needed
  • Contribute significantly to major Spring campaigns (holiday, etc.)

What you need:

  • Significant prior experience in a Copy and/or Editorial role. Preference for candidates with a background in e-commerce
  • Prior experience managing a team of junior writers
  • Great relationship building and stakeholder management skills. The Marketing and Editorial Teams support and work with many folks inside Spring. You’ll have to work with them too
  • You’re comfortable writing all sorts of editorial content including, but not limited to, blog posts, social media and emails
  • Exceptional editing skills- and if you have opinions about the necessity of an Oxford comma, we want to hear them
  • The ability to appeal to multiple audiences. Your approach is not ‘one size fits all’ and you will have tons of ideas on how to partner with brands both big and small and reach segmented customers
  • Solid understanding of paid and earned media. You should be able to come up with a list of relevant keywords and headers on demand
  • Be a passionate champion of our brand image and voice
