The Role:

Engineering at GA sits within the Technology department and is broken into two key responsibility areas, Software Engineering and Data.

The data team at GA is made up of a Director of Data (you), a Senior Staff Data Engineer, two Senior Data Engineers, two Data Engineers, two BI Analysts, and a Technical Project Manager. In 2021 the team is expected to grow. You will report directly to the VP of Technology. Our current technology stack in data engineering mostly consists of Redshift, Python, SQL, Looker, and an open-source event-based data pipeline that provides us with real-time data.

This is a technical role, you won’t be expected to code but we expect you to have proven deep data engineering experience. You will be focused primarily on leading your teams, strategy, planning, delivery, mentorship, and coaching. It’s the job of the Director of Data to leverage technology (including Data Science) and data to bring insight to the organization.

The role requires an excellent communicator and problem solver who can demonstrate having partnered with Engineers, Project Managers, and other disciplines to reliably and consistently guide their teams to deliver value.

  • Lead and inspire a global team of engineers and analysts. Be a mentor and coach, fostering ownership, guiding personal growth, and constantly striving to raise the bar on delivery performance and quality, with a transparent plan in place for each member of your team that outlines their desired next step in their career and the steps required to get them there.
  • Gather a deep understanding of your stakeholders and customers, their problems as well as our data and business constraints. Be the domain expert for all data solutions and be able to speak crisply to the current and planned functionality. Proven experience leveraging Data Science to gain insights.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and other leaders to develop and own our short and long-term data strategy. Use your understanding, partnerships, and strategy to develop business cases for initiatives that align with our company roadmap. Lead multiple cross-functional initiatives.
