Position: Director, Finance

Reporting To: Chief Financial Officer

Location: Chapel Hill, NC

Compensation Information: This role could be hired for within the range of $110,000-$160,000, based on qualifications. 

Position Summary:

Upon joining our team, the Finance Director will be a strategic thought-partner and report to the Chief Financial Officer. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who can efficiently manage a diverse set of finance-related areas, including: financial/tax reporting, business planning and budgeting, fundraising, and business administration. The Finance Director will play a critical role in partnering with the senior leadership team in strategic decision making and operations as Well continues to grow and scale its business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead financial planning and analysis (FP&A) processes; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status
  • Support Well’s monthly and year-end internal accounting operations
  • Analyze financial results; prepare monthly and annual financial statements; develop clear, insightful financial reports for Well’s leadership team and external stakeholders
  • Develop and implement performance analytics program; identify key performance indicators/metrics and associated reporting mechanisms
  • Direct implementation and maintenance of robust set of financial management/admin systems and processes
  • Oversee regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance; assist with financial audit and tax projects, including responding to information requests
  • Support evaluation of corporate development opportunities (such as M&A, strategic partnerships, build/buy decisions) to formulate recommendations for leadership team review
  • Partner with CFO and President on capital fundraising efforts; support fundraising strategy and investor relations, prepare supporting materials, coordinate with funding sources (VCs, private equity groups, individual investors, etc.), and evaluate scenarios
  • Manage capital projects (e.g., facilities growth) to ensure efficient and consistent operations as the organization scales

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of overall professional experience
  • 2+ years of accounting experience preferred
  • Minimum of a BA in business, accounting or finance, ideally with an MBA/CPA or related degree
  • Professional knowledge of GAAP
  • Ability to simply communicate complex financial concepts to programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds
  • Technology savvy, with experience using accounting/financial systems
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • A successful track record in managing multiple, time-sensitive priorities; strong problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills, with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment
