Director of Engineering - Web3

Zynga’s Web3 gaming studio is looking for a Director of Engineering to join us on our journey! Our mission is to empower players with on-chain asset ownership through fun, high-quality and enduring games they can trust, enjoy and value.

We have a well-rounded, tight-knit, distributed team with a healthy mix of engineering skill levels.  We are looking to strengthen our team by finding a proven engineering leader that fits within our culture.  This strategic leader will help us bring an original Web3 game to market and elevate our overall technical infrastructure and approach.

As a Director of Engineering, you will manage a team of engineers, provide tactical and strategic direction, mentor talent and oversee internal and external partnerships.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple internal/external software engineering teams
  • Define and scope tasks, systems, and timelines
  • Validate technology choices, architectural design, and code quality, diving deeper when necessary
  • Ability to actively listen, critically think and react to fast dev changes due to fluid Web3 gaming market conditions
  • Partner with leadership team to create processes and project plans that enable the team to efficiently produce a high quality product on time and on budget
  • Manage all development processes including scheduling, quality assurance, release, product reviews, year-to-year projections for staffing, service and hardware
  • Provide roadmap guidance for individual games, services, and the division
  • Collaborate with design, product, analytics, user experience, central tech and leadership teams to specify and build competitive game features and development tools
  • Mentor engineering career progression, providing technical coaching and skill development 
  • Interface with other technical departments and 3rd party vendors to collectively strategize, as well as route and schedule required work to appropriate parties

 Desired Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles managing teams of software engineers
  • 15+ years of prior hands-on software development experience
  • Aware, curious and/or passionate about Web3, blockchain and decentralized systems
  • Comfortable building zero to one product in dynamic startup like environment
  • Solid understanding of best practices for engineering process, code quality, build/release pipelines, security and live operations
  • Familiarity with multiple programming languages and platforms (Java, C#, C++, and Go)
  • Full stack experience on iOS, Android and AWS/Cloud technologies
  • Excellent communication skills and comfortable working in a collaborative but distributed environment

Bonus Skills and Experience:

  • Web3/blockchain development experience with a focus on web-based browser games
  • Experience in Solidity, Rust, HTML5, Javascript or similar programming languages and platforms
  • Server experience; for example, web service integration, application server performance, relational databases or data analytics
