Job Description:

Lantern’s Controller will be responsible for leading and scaling the accounting and controls function, defining and elevating accounting policies, maintaining fiscal records, building and overseeing financial infrastructure, and preparing financial reports in compliance with overall reporting requirements and operational procedures. The Controller will work directly with the CEO and will ultimately be responsible for building a team of accounting professionals with responsibilities for the general ledger, tax, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, stock plan administration and external audit relationships. This individual will be expected to provide leadership and vision for scaling the team and our financial infrastructure to keep up with the demands of Lantern’s high-growth business. As a critical leader of the management team, the Controller will build relationships and partner with all departments to provide data and insights to help managers run the company and make effective decisions. The ideal candidate will relish the opportunity to build a strong accounting function from infancy to maturity. It is imperative that this person is proactive, hands on and collaborative while maintaining an entrepreneurial spirit.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage accounting operations, including revenue recognition, payroll, accounts payable & accounts receivable and general ledger.
  • Oversee all accounting functions to ensure accurate and timely reporting of the Company’s financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP standards and Company procedures.
  • Advise management based on financial planning & analysis modeling activities
  • Manage and analyze monthly statements and reports to ensure integrity of the financial statements; deliver financial reports to internal teams, business managers, senior management and Board of Directors.
  • Author accounting policies for new businesses, products or changes in existing businesses and/or processes.
  • Develop, implement and continue to improve upon the internal financial controls, policies and infrastructure to scale with the business.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal tax requirements and filings.
  • Manage external relationships, including audit, tax, banks, investors and consultants.


Desired Skills and Experience

  • 8+ years experience, currently a Director of Accounting, Assistant Controller or Controller, preferably at a startup
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or similar emphasis preferred
  • CPA and Big 4 experience preferred
  • Demonstrated deep technical accounting knowledge, fluency with U.S. GAAP.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment and own critical decision-making responsibilities to build the team and infrastructure.
  • Adept at manipulating, analyzing and auditing large volumes of data.
  • Experience implementing new accounting and / or ERP systems.
  • Proven track record of scaling, mentoring and leading top-tier finance / accounting teams.
  • Strong leadership and influence skills to manage projects and initiatives across organizations.
