Director of Finance

Seattle, United States
Full-Time
Remote
About Motive:

Motive is a website platform for franchise auto dealerships. Millions of consumers use our platform every month. Our mission is to make car shopping great by giving simple, easy-to-use websites to auto manufacturers and their dealers. Motive is growing rapidly, with OEM customers such as Genesis — as well as some of the largest auto dealers in the world.

About our team:

The Motive team is dynamic and fully distributed — with a small in-person presence at our headquarters in Oklahoma City. We are driven to create exceptionally designed and engineered products that meaningfully impact the world. We’re a smart, thoughtful team where every member is an owner, deeply invested in the success of the business. If you thrive in fast-paced situations, and you are often skeptical of consensus, you will fit in well at Motive.

We are seeking a Director of Finance who will oversee our financial operations and strategies. This role requires a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in finance and accounting. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership abilities but won’t be afraid to get their hands dirty.

In this job, you can expect to:

  • Create and manage financial models
  • Establish and track core metrics that are essential to the financial health of the company
  • Lead and monitor the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing processes
  • Lead the design and implementation of internal controls over financial reporting and accounting policies and procedures
  • Act as a primary senior point of contact within the company for internal and external financial and accounting queries
  • Interface with investors and our Board of Directors
  • Oversee Motive’s US and Canadian entities
  • Manage billing and invoicing processes
  • Manage payroll processes
  • Oversee local, state, provincial, and federal tax filings
  • Administer and manage cap table
  • Manage regular 409A valuations
  • Interface with our legal team on financial matters
We are looking for someone who has/is:

  • A strong background in finance and accounting
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior finance role, preferably in a startup environment
  • Proficient in using Stripe for invoicing and subscriptions
  • Skilled in creating and managing financial models
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of interfacing with investors and board members
  • Experienced in managing tax filings and compliance across multiple jurisdictions
  • Knowledgeable in payroll management and payroll tax compliance
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with great follow-through on initiatives big and small
  • Experienced in cap table administration and 409A valuations
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with legal, accounting, and bookkeeping teams
Compensation: $115,000 to $150,000 in salary.

  • This pay scale is inclusive of various prerequisites and levels of proficiency and will be further narrowed throughout the interview process.
  • Your compensation will additionally include meaningful stock option compensation.
  • Motive contributes 100% of the cost of employees' health, dental, and vision insurance premiums. For employees’ dependents, Motive covers 50% of their insurance premiums.
  • We also offer unlimited time off.
Work Location: Remote

While Motive is headquartered in Oklahoma City, our team is fully distributed across the US. We are currently accepting applications from all US states.
