At Soho House the Director of Food & Beverage reports to the General Manager. The team is comprised of problem solvers who are approachable and passionate about providing rememberable experiences through food, drink and culture. The role…

At Soho House the Director of Food & Beverage is responsible for maintaining the performance, appearance and atmosphere of the Club, Roof, Events Space and Room Service at Soho Beach House. As the Director of Food & Beverage your primary responsibility is to uphold Soho House service standards and create an approachable yet elevated atmosphere for members, guest. In this role you will also oversee forecasting, business improvement plans and manage payroll/labor, budgets and revenue.

Someone who is not afraid of rolling up their sleeves to get the job done, customer centric, keen eye for detail while also encompassing a strong business acumen and problem solver.

  • Develop and maintain a Soho environment, with superior employees, dedicated to attentive, distinctive experience in all aspects of dining and amenities
  • Develop relationships with the Members and partner with Membership to create an environment around the Soho House Ethos.
  • Support the member events team in planning and hosting effective events.
  • Attend all committee meetings.
  • To lead and inspire a team of floor managers and staff to achieve, and ideally, exceed company and House goals stemming from the company core objectives and values, e.g. Service Scores, Employee Relations, Costs & Efficiency, and Sales and Revenue
  • Maximize individual potential through positive commitment to training and development and succession planning at all levels in order to meet current and future manpower demands
  • Ensure all staff are meeting all established standards of service. Monitor and test service skills of staff, retrain and reinforce all standards on food and quality and service details daily. Provide feedback and appraisals as necessary
  • Identify employee developmental needs and create an action plan to correct it. Follow through on the plan
  • To ensure appropriate and effective daily focus on company and hotel goals while contributing to the strategic development of the hotel
  • Meets restaurant financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions
  • Plans menus by consulting with chefs; estimates food costs and profits; adjusts menus
  • Hire, train, empower, supervise and discipline employees
  • To accept full accountability for the people, product and profit within the club
  • To manifest excellence in customer service as well as exploiting opportunities for growth within the business
  • Plan and conduct meetings for outlets on a monthly basis to ensure staff is correctly communicated with and that staff are consistently trained and well-motivated. Attend interdepartmental meetings to ensure good cross communication between departments
  • To provide inspirational leadership through the motivation and development within the staff to contribute towards the overall success of the business
  • To ensure the Soho company culture is visible in all aspects of the business
  • Resolve guest complaints, handling all guest interactions with the highest level of hospitality and professionalism, accommodating special requests whenever possible. Responds to guests’ requests in an accurate and timely manner, creating a positive outcome that will result in a memorable experience
  • Expert in food and beverage and excellent knowledge of all departments internally
  • Assure the proper handling of VIPs. Protect their privacy and confidentiality
  • Ensuring compliance to all hotel policies and procedures at all levels and that policies are compliant with local and federal laws
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent phone skills, customer service oriented and proactive. Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanour at all times
  • Participate in teamwork and assist other departments when needed
  • Maintain a fun and energetic attitude at all times
  • Checking Bar and Floor schedules during the working week
  • Liaise with maintenance department to ensure all areas are in perfect condition to ensure smooth service and design standard of Soho house
  • Hosting weekly meetings with Club Management staff
  • Completing the weekly Club Managers schedule
  • Responsible for managing the Beverage Program and Bars Manager
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of related Restaurant Management experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Passion for food & beverage
  • Ability to work in a friendly relaxing demeanour with quick customer service
  • Flexible schedule
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Detail oriented
  • Basset & Food Handler Certified
  • Computer literacy to include: Micros
  • Computer savvy with PC’s and Mac’s
  • Basic Office experience, including answering telephone calls, faxing, assisting members and guest with computer issues
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment
  • Regular and reliable attendance

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands
  • Must be able to work on your feet for at least 8 hours
  • Fast paced movements are required to go from one part of the club to others
  • Must be able to move, pull, carry or lift at least 20 pounds
  • Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch and climb as required
