Director of Hardware Engineering - Onsite - Rochester, NY

This is a key leadership role within the company that will drive product innovation and sustain the development of Casana’s revolutionary Heart Seat as we move toward commercialization. 

Your team designs and builds the hardware that enables our innovative technology to arm physicians with consistent, reliable health data to transition from reactive care to preventative care. You will lead the design and engineering from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems through to manufacturing. Reporting to the Chief Research Officer, you will pull on your technical expertise as you lead development projects in multiple areas and across both mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines.

This position will be based in Rochester, NY.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary product team of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, and collaborate with software engineering, manufacturing, and quality and regulatory to develop advanced medical devices.
  • Plan, define, and lead all phases of hardware engineering from early prototyping through to a commercial product, including resources, budgets, vendors, etc.
  • Assure a high standard of quality in your own work and in the work of your team via good design practices, process improvements, and smart testing and review practices.
  • Direct department activities to design new products and modify existing designs while working closely with all departments within the company.
  • Analyze technology trends, human resource needs, and market demands to organize and prioritize projects.
  • Support recruitment and retention activities.
  • Assist in developing hardware development program timelines, budgets, and strategies.
  • Ensure hardware development is done in accordance with all Casana Standard Operating Procedures.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience working in electronics hardware engineering environments.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management-level experience.
  • Experience leading electronic architecture, schematic/layout, and bring-up/test of low-power medical device hardware.
  • Experience leading mechanical architecture, design, prototype, to production of medical devices.
  • Strong understanding of both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering design elements.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team, and capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communications skills: Technical writing/presentation, verbal and interpersonal.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to seamlessly integrate theory with empirical data.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in calculations, hands-on experimentation, and documentation.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Advanced engineering degree (Master’s/PhD).
  • Strong knowledge of injection molding.
  • Strong knowledge of firmware.
  • Experience building complex hardware/software systems for medical devices.
  • Experience bringing a product to market from the proof of concept stage.

Compensation:

Base salary range of $180,000 - $200,000 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience and location. Our compensation consists of base salary and equity as well as a generous benefits package.
