MM.LaFleur is hiring a

Director of People & Culture

New York, United States

About This Role

MM is growing in the fun and fast way of a hightailing startup (we’re told the term is “hockey stick”). We are incredibly proud of the team and culture we’ve built, where our humans truly come first, and are intensely focused on maintaining and evolving this special thing we’ve got going on. The ideal candidate for this role has a strong tactical HR foundation, combined with the vision and strategic experience to grow a company culture driven by MM’s mission and values. This role will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and partner with other departments and executive team members to recruit, hire and retain top talent. We are looking for someone comfortable building a department; taking the reins in creating scalable HR processes, facilitating meaningful relationships, mentoring our staff, and cultivating an empowering environment.

What will you do?

  • Create organization within chaos: Lead the conversation around the constant change management and organizational redesign inevitably associated with a quickly growing company; work closely with the executive team and department leaders to build a hiring and employee growth pipeline; design creative and forward-looking solutions to our ever-evolving structure
  • Creatively build upon our unique culture: Find unexpected and new ways to maintain and grow a culture that isn't your typical tech startup and isn't what you'd expect in fashion, but instead has its own brand of energy created organically by the diverse and amazing people who have come in so far; help us continue to motivate and support our team in a way that genuinely cares about each individual
  • Oversee a cross-team learning and development task force: Advance and scale training and development programs focusing on the quality of our customer-facing teams, the effectiveness of our on-boarding rotations and workshops, the caliber of our managers, and generally the personal and professional growth of all of our employees
  • Consolidate and grow a recruiting function: Build a recruiting team and repeatable processes with heavy involvement from the rest of the team
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration: Help us continually evolve our standing meetings and cross-functional processes to enable productivity and nimble yet thoughtful growth
  • Ensure our environment helps us meet our goals: lead initiatives and contribute to strategies around office space, facilities, and events; manage an administrative person or team to this end
  • Combine compliance and best practices with the 'MM way': Confidently oversee all things related to compensation, benefits, and HR policies, while finding clever ways to approach perks, rewards, and general care for our employees' wellbeing
  • Be the go-to: Play the role of coach and mediator, balancing business judgment with human heart

What skills do you have?

  • 6+ years of progressive HR/Talent experience, ideally including a collaborative startup environment
  • Deep understanding, interest, and excitement about building an unparalleled company culture
  • Curiosity to try new things and to always be learning
  • Scrappy and resourceful self-starter
  • Working knowledge of the HR alphabets and able to create process and policy to ensure MM is compliant with federal, state and local laws
  • Excellent project management and analytical skills (strength in Excel a plus)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
