Who we are

We are building the software which powers our next generation robotic picking and storage solution. This solution is a core component of our Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) which are offered as part of the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP). OSP is being marketed to retailers globally as a world-class platform for grocery fulfilment.

This role will co-lead the CFC Outbound department partnering with the Head of Engineering. CFC Outbound builds the systems responsible for the picking, packing and shipping of orders out of one of the most highly automated warehouse systems in the world. Your product will orchestrate people to perform manual operations in perfect harmony with the robots in order to deliver near perfect fulfilment rates, extremely low levels of waste and unparalleled levels of operational efficiency. Expect to be challenged by building a great human / machine interface, tackle tough optimisation problems and build a platform that is flexible enough to support the way the world eats.

How will I spend my days

You will provide product and organisational leadership for the warehouse management product team comprised of Product Managers and Senior Product Managers. This role partners directly with the Head of Engineering sharing accountability for key decisions, achieving commitments to the delivery plan and providing constructive challenge to focus effort on the missions that are important for Ocado Technology and its stakeholders.

You will have responsibility for


  • In partnership with the Head of Product, build a Product organisation that is both capable of delivering upon today’s commitments and needs of years to come
  • Responsible for developing and managing a high performing team of Product Managers within a stream, breaking down goals and delegating into clear plan
  • Evangelize the product vision so all stakeholders are aligned, have context, and understand where we are going
  • Role models behaviours and actively applies Ocado Technology principles daily

Product Knowledge

  • Provides product knowledge and a sound understanding of customer needs and capability requirements, signposting to technical knowledge where needed
  • Understands overall platform performance & how products support this including interdependencies with other systems
  • Monitors progress against goals, looking for ways to improve the product & make adjustments based on strategic goals

Insight & Innovation

  • Actively looks for opportunities in creating incremental value when achieving set product goal commitments
  • Sets culture of pace and innovation, empowering teams to deliver fast to accelerate learning


  • Sets expectations within Technology for pace of delivery required to achieve platform goals
  • Maintains a list of planned work, linked to a goal, and its order of priority for delivery purposes at an appropriate level of granularity
  • Support Product Managers to scope & prioritise stories to maximise business value using products
  • Maintains teams focus on delivering value, balancing multiple requirements & schedules
  • Facilitates the agile processes and removing obstacles in workflow wherever required


  • Manages users and stakeholders effectively to gather feedback to continuously refine the product roadmap
  • Builds strong relationships with Ocado stakeholders - establishing methods for getting user driven feedback via Solutions
  • Creates alignment between Client, Design, and Engineering across multiple teams


  • Collaborates with PMs/DMs in planning sessions, challenging appropriately to meet product goals
  • Liaises with the stream Product function to share knowledge, define the realisation process and policies that govern it

Problem Solving

  • Recommends product improvements based on analysis drawn from data, systems and customer behaviour
  • Evangelizes and embeds best practices in tracking, analysis, and data-driven problem solving across multiple teams
