The Director of Project Finance will report to the Vice President of Project Finance and will lead the structuring and execution of project-level tax equity, debt, and cash equity capital raise transactions. They will manage the project finance pre-launch and closing processes, coordinate and negotiate documentation and with third party consultants as well as manage both internal and external stakeholders through the pre-launch and closing periods.  The Director will also manage the analyst and associate staff assigned to the transaction while reporting/communicating status to the Vice President of Project Finance.

This Director of Project Finance position requires in-depth knowledge of project-level fundamentals to work collaboratively with Pine Gate’s interdepartmental team members. The Director position also requires extensive knowledge and experience in negotiating debt and tax equity structures to provide thought leadership and process leadership to each deal. 

What You’ll Do

  • In collaboration with the VP, lead the day-to-day negotiation, structuring, and execution of tax equity, construction and perm debt, and sponsor equity capital raise transactions
  • Manage deal team analysts and associates during financing executions
  • Evaluate current and potential project acquisition and financing opportunities through forecasting cash flows, tax impacts, and investor returns and take ownership of the overall profitability of the financings
  • Conduct preliminary project due diligence to identify risks and mitigants
  • Manage financial models, prepare marketing materials, manage third party consultants, and assist in negotiating transaction documents
  • Coordinate with finance providers on due diligence and documentation
  • Coordinate the drawdown and closing process with respect to construction debt, tax equity, permanent debt, and permanent cash equity providers
  • Assist VP of Project Finance in pipeline evaluation and analysis, as well as project-related capital planning and forecasting
  • Support senior management on various financing related matters on an on-going basis

Must-Haves

  • At least 10-12 years of relevant project finance experience executing project finance transactions within the U.S. power or infrastructure sectors
  • Project finance debt, equity, and/or tax equity deal execution experience
  • Solar or renewable energy project finance experience
  • Transaction and deal team leadership experience
  • Experience leading project finance capital raise transactions and managing a deal team of project finance professionals across experience levels
  • Executive-level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage both up and down the organization
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, think critically, prioritize, and meet assigned deadlines in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Strong work ethic, a high degree of detail orientation, and a strong sense of urgency
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

Nice-to-Haves

  • Tax equity experience across multiple tax structures
  • Network of project finance debt and tax equity capital relationships
  • Familiarity with tax and accounting methods

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Finance or Accounting.

Working Environment and Physical Demand

  • Some travel may be required for remote employee.
  • Preferred work location is Asheville or Charlotte.
