Director of Store Planning

Bonobos is looking for a Director of Store Planning to help support our rapidly expanding Guideshop business. 

Reporting to our Chief Revenue Officer, the Director of Store Planning will be responsible for owning and managing the master schedule and capital expenditure budget for the Guideshop expansion and renovation programs. In this role, you will oversee the entire pre construction and store build out process, managing projects from inception through project closeout, in conjunction with the project management team from lease negotiation to store opening. 

What you’ll do…

  • Use strong program management skills to ensure that all projects start on time and are turned over to the store operations teams for a clean and timely opening in accordance with the store development master schedule.
  • Partner with the director of real estate on the lease review process with a focus on all elements related to scope of work, delivery conditions and building systems.
  • Build systems and communication tools to collaborate with all internal partners throughout the store planning and opening process.
  • Work with the store design team through the schematic design process to create stores that are on brand and under budget.
  • Manage the permitting process for all store locations in order to ensure timely approvals.
  • Work with the construction project manager in assembling complete bid packages for distribution to general contractors for complete and consistent pricing.
  • Prepare bid leveling documents for general contractor price comparison, scope confirmation, final negotiations and award.
  • Manage and report on the financial status of all projects on a weekly basis.
  • Use effective decision-making and negotiation skills to minimize change orders and cost overruns.
  • Work with the store design team through the schematic design process to create stores that are on brand and under budget.
  • Drive the store renovation program throughout the existing fleet of Guideshops.
  • Continue to build a great network of qualified and competitive vendors, contractors and consultants.
  • Have a hand’s on approach to project closeout – deliver a complete store of GREAT quality to store operations, manage completion of punchlist and final submission of all closeout documents. 


  • Have 10+ years of experience in store planning, design, construction working for a retail business or consultant
  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or other related disciplines
  • Are a technical expert in reading and understanding construction documents, contracts and lease exhibits
  • Have knowledge of architectural assemblies, mechanical, electrical and HVAC components and systems, millwork and retail fixtures
  • Understand store planning and layout concepts and can be a strong internal cross functional partner
  • Are comfortable managing and leading multiple projects simultaneously
  • Thrive in a high energy budget/schedule-driven and TEAM oriented environment
  • Are disciplined, organized and proactive with a high attention to detail and a high attention to detail 
  • Are psyched to help build and improve internal processes and best practices/policies
  • Are available for domestic travel (up to 30-40% of the time)
