Job Description

We’re seeking a talented and motivated Director of Talent Acquisition to join us at Tailscale! You’ll play an integral role in building a best-in-class talent acquisition and recruiting function and leading a team that prioritizes an inclusive candidate experience to grow a high-performing, highly engaged team and culture. 

Working within our People Team, you’ll work cross-departmentally to ensure we’re seeking out the best matches for our roles based equally on skills, competencies and values alignment. You will lead and mentor a team of sourcers and recruiters, helping them to scale up our current processes and leverage best practices in employer branding and recruitment strategies to attract and engage the right talent. 

Responsibilities:

  • Your mission will be to develop and execute a talent acquisition strategy that aligns with business needs to attract and retain top talent. Here’s how you’ll achieve this

  • Coach and develop a high-performing and motivated Talent Acquisition team that supports the company in achieving headcount goals

  • Work collaboratively with leadership at both the strategic and tactical levels to effectively prioritize and fulfill current and upcoming hiring needs

  • Build genuine internal and external relationships to communicate effectively with others, whether jumping into a crowd at a recruiting event to strike up a conversation with a potential candidate or mentoring a hiring lead on their interview approach

  • Own full cycle recruitment for key roles while actively coaching and training team members on interviewing best practices

  • Scope and manage a number of recruitment-related projects and initiatives, including updating job postings and descriptions, improving candidate selection processes, launching interview training, implementing inclusive and diverse hiring practices, and aligning our values and leveling guides to how Greenhouse is used to develop effective pre-screening questionnaires, scorecards and interview questions

  • Establish and measure key metrics and reporting for talent acquisition to assess for candidate experience, sourcing effectiveness and recruiting efforts to accurately communicate the department’s goals and progress towards them to the rest of the organization

Requirements:

  • Has 7+ years of experience primarily in a full cycle in-house recruitment role where you oversaw every step of the recruitment process for technical and non-technical positions (from support managers to software developers)

  • Directly managed a team of two or more within an HR or recruitment function (including coaching, providing mentorship, setting goals, doing regular 1:1s and completing performance reviews)

  • Has a proven track record of hiring high-performers across different specializations from emerging talent to senior leaders at other tech companies, and knows how to effectively manage a high volume of applicants with a white glove experience

  • Understands hiring metrics and can objectively evaluate the success of recruitment efforts 

  • Feels comfortable training others on hiring best practices, technologies, and processes

  • Is a clear communicator, both written and verbal—you can craft a thoughtful rejection email to a candidate just as easily as you can get curious and lean in during interviews

  • Grasping new tools and systems quickly, with experience working with our technology stack (Greenhouse, BambooHR, Gem, Notion, Asana and LinkedIn Recruiter) (Nice to Have)

  • Knowing the value of hiring a diverse team and prioritizing finding a wide pool of qualified candidates to enable unbiased hiring decisions (Nice to Have)

For this position, our target salary range is $215,000 - $220,000 USD (paid in your local currency). As a company, we strive to maintain fair and equitable compensation practices within our team across all roles and all levels.
