“Ocado Technology, powering the future of retail through sustained disruptive technology innovation...”

Ocado Technology is putting the world’s retailers online using advanced artificial intelligence, robotics, big data, the cloud and IoT. We develop the innovative software and hardware systems that power Ocado.com, as well as the unique ‘Ocado Smart Platform’ which is being implemented by ambitious retailers across the world from Europe to America, Asia and beyond. With everything from websites to highly automated warehouses that we design in-house, our employees are skilled specialists with expertise across a wide range of technologies, working on cutting-edge innovations that are shaping the future of our society.

We champion a value-led culture to get our teams working at their very best and to help create a collaborative working environment that our people love. Core values of Trust, Autonomy, Craftsmanship, Collaboration and Learn Fast help drive our innovative culture.

The 10x Technology Team creates value for Ocado in the near-term as well as the long-term by working on speculative projects that push the boundaries of what can be achieved with technology. The team provides an environment in which innovation can thrive and there is plenty of opportunity to collaborate with Ocado's specialist software and engineering teams in the UK and Ocado's development offices in Europe.

As an Electronics Engineer Intern in the 10x Technology Team, you will be responsible for working on novel research projects that involve fast system prototyping and experimentation. You will be required to work on bespoke problems to solve unique business issues. You will design and execute cutting edge research that has the potential to enhance or transform the way Ocado uses technology.

You will be immersed into an environment of innovation and collaboration, covering a broad spectrum of disciplines including machine learning, software engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, and mobile robotics. Within this environment you will apply what you've learnt so far in your education, expand your knowledge, and experience what it is like to work in an R&D environment.

During your internship with us, you will be able to hone in on your existing skills in areas like:

  • Analogue and digital electronics design and design for manufacture
  • PCB design and layout, including for high frequency systems (e.g. wireless communications above 1GHz) which involves design for impedance matching
  • Embedded systems / firmware - C, C++, Assembler, DSP
  • Rapid prototyping

You are a collaborative, entrepreneurial T-shaped person who enjoys continuous self-improvement.

We want to talk to you if you have exceptional academics (2 A*s or more in Science-related subjects) and are working on a relevant degree at a 2:1 or above. You will ideally have some examples to share with us of your experience and achievements when creating novel systems that do something innovative. We’re looking for innovative problem solvers, someone who can process complex theoretical ideas and apply them to practical systems. You will be an excellent communicator, able to present to various levels within your team and the wider business. Autonomy is key, you will need to be a proactive individual, able to pick up various open ended projects, evaluate the right solutions to the problems identified, and transform your own ideas from paper to reality.

We're looking for 10 week interns starting around July 2021, 6 month interns starting around April 2021 and 12 month interns starting around Sept 2021. If this all sounds good, then we'd love to hear from you!

We are thrilled to welcome all applicants from across the world but please note we are unable to cover visa costs at this time.
