We are looking for an experienced Engineering Lead who will be a leader within the Payments team at Trade Me, you will be responsible empowering the engineering team to deliver top-quality products that create value for customers, evolving our engineering practices to increase our speed to customer value, and ensuring the long-term health of our technology platforms.

In this role you are developing the engineers in your team to give them direction and guidance for future growth. Our people are key to our success. As an Engineering Lead, you will cultivate your team's success through trusted relationships and persistent and proactive culture shaping, contributing to individuals' professional growth and satisfaction alongside excellent outcomes for Trade Me.
Working with Product Managers and the Head of Delivery, you will help to translate our multi-year Payments strategies into actionable plans that optimise customer value. You will be responsible for the operational health and reliability of the platforms that you work with and will define and drive forward the principles of quality, stable, and supportable software design.
Here's what you can expect from the role:
* You'll line-manage a team of engineers, taking responsibility for recruitment, onboarding, objectives and reviews, remuneration, time tracking, promotions, and performance management.
* You'll continually craft and shape a high-trust, high-performance, high-empathy, high-candour learning culture in line with Trade Me values.
* Work with the Payments Leadership team, to help implement mid to long-term practices across teams, and to translate multi-year platform strategies into actionable one-year plans that optimize customer value.
* Facilitate complex technical and architectural designs in teams, through experimentation with your squads to discover the most viable, feasible and desirable solutions for our customers.
* Advocate for continuous delivery and observability practices across teams. Review incidents and post-mortems, recommend and implement improvements accordingly.
* Identify technical debt and work with the Head of Delivery to prioritise remediation.
* Embed within software delivery teams to articulate, plan, develop, test, and release complex solutions.
* Contribute to the strategy and direction of your platform, and govern good practice and alignment for the squads that contribute to it.
Here's what you will bring to the role:
* Experience in all aspects of a continuous delivery (architecture, culture, and patterns).
* Strong software development skills in languages similar/transferable to those used at Trade Me (primarily C# / Typescript) or PHP with strong AWS Cloud skills
* Understanding of common software architecture concerns with practical experience working in large complex systems.
* Practical understanding of common software quality principles such as SOLID, Law of Demeter, DRY etc
* 7+ years of experience working with software delivery teams, and 3 years of experience as a leader or mentor within, or of teams.
* Experience with Microservices architecture and best practices.
* Experience working with public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure etc.).
* Experience provisioning and managing cloud infrastructure through code (IaC).
* Experience in automation and maintaining healthy build pipelines
