Omidyar Network is hiring an

Extern, Impact Investing Team

Redwood City, United States

Pierre Omidyar, the founder of eBay, and his wife, Pam, established Omidyar Network (ON) based on the belief that every person has the potential to make a difference. To tap that potential, ON employs a flexible capital model that includes impact investments alongside traditional grants. We take calculated risks in the earliest stages of innovation, helping to transform promising ideas into successful ventures.  As an active impact investor, we offer more than just financial support. We provide vital human capital capabilities, from serving on boards to consulting on strategy, coaching executives to recruiting new talent. We have a particular focus on supporting entrepreneurs who have the potential to impact entire sectors, demonstrating the opportunity for others to follow. Headquartered in California’s Bay Area, ON has offices in Washington, DC; London, UK; Mumbai, India; and Johannesburg, South Africa.

Drawing on more than 12 years and $969 million in investments and grants, ON’s impact investing team works to accelerate the growth and effectiveness of the global impact investing industry. Named the Most Promising Trend in Philanthropy by Forbes in 2015, impact investing is taking off, with champions as diverse as Pope Francis, the G7, World Economic Forum, and Bill Gates. Driven by client demand, major financial institutions like Goldman Sachs and Blackrock are getting involved. As the industry grows and matures, it faces important challenges, including the need for greater early-stage risk capital, rigorous data on financial returns, a unified public policy agenda, and greater clarity in parsing impact investing’s big tent.  To realize the full potential of the impact investing industry, our team takes on the most pressing challenges through strategic partnerships, investments, and thought leadership.

Based in Redwood City, CA, this externship with the ON impact investing team offers the right candidate unique exposure to the fast-growing impact investing market, insights on key trends and challenges, and a chance to partner with the industry’s top thought leaders.  Although the role is time-limited, the extern will be deeply integrated into the impact investing team and take on significant responsibility to advance Omidyar Network field-building priorities.
