The Fabrication Specialist plays a pivotal role in fluids system build processing and will be responsible for the design and fabrication of high quality fluids control panels, training and continuous improvement for the Launch Hardware Fabrication department. This is a hands-on, frontline role that can make a real impact on the day to day success of SpaceX and achieving our goal to reach Mars!


  • Design and create layouts for fluids system control panels which may include:
    • Material and component selection procurement
    • Fabrication
    • System activation and maintenance
    • Development of tooling and supporting infrastructure
    • Development of standard procedures and training
  • Set the example for quality, attention to detail and safety awareness with the team
  • Develop methods to improve our safety process to ensure technicians understand how to safely work with a variety of high pressure systems, LOTO process, lifting and rigging, and equipment training/licensing
  • Document process changes in a clean concise format for presentation to the team
  • Gather information from various engineering disciplines, shop floor personnel, spec requirements and drawing requirements to assist with creation of accurate planning
  • Communicate with support functions to ensure materials kits are delivered on-time and consistent with the schedule
  • Assist in training on tube bending, medium pressure tubing, orbital tube welding, and basic fabrication
  • Fabricate and repair ground support equipment, fluids systems and facilities systems including pumps, tanks, valves, plumbing and instrumentation
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair hardware associated with high pressure gas, hydraulic, cryogenic systems and components and associated instrumentation
  • Follow all regulations and appropriate SpaceX procedures including quality policies, safety policies, OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, NFPA, ASME, NEX and other standards
  • Provide support and direction to technicians during construction, activation, and maintenance of fluids systems equipment
  • Develop novel ways to streamline site-wide processes and increase the reliability and efficiency of testing operations
  • Perform any additional tasks that ensure efficient and effective fabrication, as required


  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 3+ years of experience in fabrication, inventory, or quality control
  • 4+ years of experience working in a production environment with hydraulic, cryogenic, pneumatic, mechanical or electrical/data systems


  • Practical experience using CAD software and CNC machines
    • Specific experience working with CNC router tables
  • Experience with orbital tube welding
  • Experience with complex fluids systems for various media
  • Practical experience working with vacuum systems, bore scope inspections/operations, tubing and pipe fittings/joints, mechanical fasteners, HVAC, and machinery (e.g. pumps, air compressors)
  • Practical experience working with high pressure gas, hydraulic, cryogenic, flammable hypergolic, pyrophoric, systems
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Practical experience as a technical project lead
  • Proficiency in testing, test operations with gases/fluids, data acquisition setup or field measurements
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced/cross functional environment
  • Strong proficiency in computer based design software and applications


  • Ability to work at elevated heights (200+ feet)
  • Physical effort with climbing up and down stairs regularly throughout the day
  • Physical effort with lifting and carrying materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs.)
  • Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required
  • Occasional travel may be required to support vehicle operations at production and launch sites
