Head of Ad Solutions

The Head of Ad Solutions for BuzzFeed’s Product and Packaging team should be a strategic and driven individual capable of managing a team responsible for developing and managing ad solutions for BuzzFeed owned and operated properties as well as third-party platforms. With a proven understanding of both digital and social content, this role is responsible for partnering with key stakeholders to develop new product offerings and vertical packages, drive revenue, and leverage data and analytics to build a consultative solution for our clients. The Head of Ad Solutions will establish and strengthen key client relationships with a focus on driving revenue and advertiser satisfaction.

The successful candidate is both data-driven and has the ability to tune into market trends to inform product strategies and execution; they must work effectively with colleagues across the company to drive results and be able to manage a team.

General Responsibilities:

  • Manage the growing product and packaging team, as part of the Business Strategy and Monetization Team
  • Manage ideation and development of products for BuzzFeed owned and operated properties as well as social platforms
  • Work closely with Operations to manage and deliver products
  • Build infrastructure and processes for the development and launch of products
  • Fully vet and explore new product / packaging ideas, as well as partnership opportunities
  • Work closely with the Business Strategy and Monetization team to develop new products and packages
  • Manage a team responsible for product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle, including gathering and prioritizing product requirements, defining the product vision and working closely with key stakeholders to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met
  • Work with key stakeholders and management to align products to the company's overall strategy and goals

Relationship & Management:

  • Define, prioritize and execute products and operational improvements
  • Set up processes and infrastructure to manage the entire product life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities
  • Develop and communicate overall positioning, benefits, features and go-to market strategy to internal and external stakeholders
  • Define the product strategy and roadmap 
  • Work closely with internal teams, including Product, Editorial, Operations, Sales and Marketing
  • Develop and run pilot programs with early stage products 
  • Ability to analyze and review data to inform product and pricing decisions
  • Work closely with the relevant stakeholders (Sales, Branded Creative, and Product) to develop ad products and scalable category specific solutions
  • Partner with Research and Branded Distribution to source relevant data and insights to help position ad solutions 
  • Regularly host focus groups with a view to growing category-specific revenue and developing scalable ad solutions
  • Be a key partner for the sales organization; educating sales on products and packages, and arming them with the tools, materials, and knowledge they need to be successful
  • Strategically assess the competitive landscape and prioritize revenue opportunities
  • Constantly monitor the market, sharing relevant competitive intelligence with key stakeholders

Experience/Skills:

  • 8+ years experience working with agencies and large brands
  • 5+ years as a manager running ad solutions or product management
  • Client-facing expertise
  • Experience managing large-scale consumer products 
  • Proficient in the development of product positioning; product planning and roadmap definition; and sales training and presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to develop best-in-class products and go-to-market strategies
  • Fluency across the social web and key brand platforms inclusive of video, digital, experiential, and social
  • Expertise in media strategy and creating media plans
  • Proven success collaborating with a team
  • Ability to prioritize and manage projects within a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Ability to work well and communicate effectively with members of multiple teams
