Role Overview

A strong executive and internal communications strategy is necessary to support Skillz on the road to IPO. We’re looking for an experienced executive and internal communications professional who is passionate about driving communications campaigns, programming and events to elevate Skillz and our executives. This leader will work closely with and provide counsel to our senior executive team. The right individual will be able to drive strategic, creative and pragmatic communications around corporate milestones and updates, working to drive positive employee sentiment, move employees to action, and manage change in a high-growth, fast-paced environment. 


Objectives

Elevate “Skillz Life” internally and externally by creating a steady drumbeat of communications moments to: 

  1. Inform employees about organizational goals, initiatives or milestones
  2. Give light to important conversations, drive deeper engagement and workplace pride
  3. Empower employees to deliver on key business needs and opportunities
  4. Elevate Skillz spokespeople as visionary thought leaders ushering in the future of entertainment and competition
  5. Advance the rise of esports by creating, validating and owning an entirely new category of fair competition for everyone


Competencies Required

  • Emotional Intelligence - Relationship builder with good instincts, humility and willingness to receive/respond to feedback constructively.
  • Influential Storyteller - Quickly synthesize information to craft compelling and persuasive narratives (talking points, speeches, emails, etc.) that promote open, authentic communication to wins "hearts & minds." 
  • Executive Presence - Experience coaching senior leaders to: create narratives aligned to our mission, vision and values; become better communicators; communicate around change management; role model our core values.
  • Experience Driven - Gracious host and ability to work as a "team player" cross functionally and with external partners to drive positive culture/employee experience through event strategy/production/programming (e.g., speakers bureau, company-wide meetings, convening industry thought leaders, etc.).
  • Project Management - Balance multiple priorities simultaneously and exercise ruthless prioritization; recognize and skillfully navigate opportunities, challenges and risks; problem solve to drive wins for Skillz.
