Head of Data Engineering & Analytics

Job description:

Data is an integral part of decision making at eero. Both for product decisions and as an enabling technology to make the eeros in home as useful, smart, stable, and performant as possible. Now we’re looking for a Head of Data who will not only manage and grow out our talented data team, but define the future of eero and further define the role that data can play at eero.

From software and data engineers to data scientists to analysts, our data team is responsible for data storage, warehousing, ETL, and pipelines as well as data stream processing, data analysis, and working with product management to help inform decisions. eero’s Head of Data will grow and organize the team for the future, support the data needs of teams across the company, and drive the development of the necessary infrastructure.

The team leverages Redshift, S3, Looker, Snaplogic, PostgreSQL, EMR, and other tools, platforms, and data stores. Software development primarily uses Scala and Python (as needed).

What you'll do: 

  • Shape and build the data team and the data infrastructure with consideration to being able to handle current and future projects.
  • Be responsible for the health, culture, and success of the data team. You’ll meet frequently with the team members to mentor and develop them (including career management, performance reviews). You’ll define clear roles and responsibilities for the team and its members.
  • Lead the team in defining and scoping, estimating and scheduling, and assigning projects and tasks. The team will be enabled to do the work and adhere to schedules. You communicate status to the rest of the eero team.
  • Contribute to the team with some technical contributions or program management.

We're looking for someone who: 

  • Understands data and how to present data
  • Has 3+ years of management experience
  • Hands on experience as a data engineer or data scientist
  • Comfortable giving frequent feedback to reports, peers, and managers
  • Has been a technical leader on projects and has strong expertise and experience across all parts of a data team
  • Can build the foundation for our future. Balance building what we need now with what we will need in six months and beyond.
  • Is curious, empathic, and has a healthy amount of grit
