Material Technologies is expanding its reach into B2C with the launch of DesignShop. DesignShop is reinventing the home design process by taking the most exciting elements of Pinterest and combining them with a massive library of home design materials from hundreds of the country's best brands, all of which are instantly available for overnight sampling. DesignShop’s shoppable inspiration is highly accurate and when coupled with its hyper-realistic interactive design tools, allows users to create beautiful scenes comprised of any material in its library. We expect DesignShop to become the world’s most powerful virtual design center.

DesignShop is seeking a Head of Engineering to develop and implement a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with building the world’s leading virtual design center. As the Head of Engineering you will be responsible for building and leading cross-functional teams from the ground up; including front end, backend, commerce engines, and AR/visualization experiences. Additionally, you will lead initiatives and operations in partnership company Principal engineers, centering on DevOps, analytics, data science, machine learning, and search. This is a great opportunity for a leader who thrives on challenges, as you’ll be taking on fast-moving and large disruptors in a competitive industry.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated technology leader willing to dive deep into all facets of the business and has proven experience in both 0-1 builds and high-scaling e-commerce platforms. Equally crucial is the leader's capacity to exercise sound judgment, not just in technology, architecture, and personnel choices, but also in determining product features and solutions. The Head of Engineering is anticipated to take ownership of various aspects of the DesignShop product, akin to the other executives within the team. This is a Hybrid Role based in the Metropolitan Area of New York, Miami, or Boston and will require time in office.

DesignShop is committed to utilizing data science, machine learning, and visualization to build a business that can remain steps ahead of current market players. The Head of Engineering will lead these efforts in addition to managing the software engineering team, ensuring proper technology decisions are made across all facets of the business (e.g. code, systems, catalog, payments, inventory, and more). As an executive, this role will participate and influence strategic decisions, leveraging their superpowers, to help the business grow outside of engineering.

What you’ll bring:

• 10+ years of engineering management experience
• Proven 0-1 success
• Full stack experience in B2C e-commerce
• Broad range of experience with AWS technologies
• Strategic understanding and baseline building skills surrounding AI/ML
• Knowledge of search business logic, ranking, filtering, and recommendations
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
• Hands-on, collaborative working style, with the ability to build relationships and earn trust with multiple teams and key stakeholders
