The company’s products target the multi-billion global market for Omega-3 products, with its premium supplements segment sector growing at over 30% per year. The company’s intellectual property portfolio, vast technological know-how and expertise span throughout the production process, from algae culturing to final product.

We are looking for a Head of Operations | Process Engineer based in Imperial, TX, to work closely with an outstanding Vice President of Algae Production Operations, leading all technical and operational aspects of the firm.

WHAT YOU WILL DO ON A DAILY BASIS

Overall: You will be responsible for Qualitas Health’s technical staff and operations.  Daily activities would include production planning, communicating and coordinating with supervisors and technical staff, and fostering relationships with vendors and manufacturing partners. You will effectively lead projects, providing guidance to the team based on management direction; you will coach and develop team members, holding them accountable for duties and deliverables, assuring that the team addresses all relevant issues within the specifications and standards of the company

Going more granular, you will…

Lead
−Evaluating unit processes for the production of algae biomass, and configuring the processes to reduce cost, improve robustness, and develop best practices within the production process;
−Developing innovative solutions to problems in the field, including ongoing process development and continuous improvement;
−Supervising and coaching staff and production crew in all areas of production;
−Coordinating necessary resources and staffing to meet production targets;
−Assisting the team in troubleshooting; escalating issues which cannot be resolved by the team;
−Providing status reporting of production team activities against the program plan or schedule.

Manage
−All production aspects, collaborating between internal (R&D, Extraction teams) and external contacts and stakeholders;
−Developing, implementing, and editing SOPs on various tasks; 
−Training operators on unit processes, monitoring, SOPs, etc. as needed 
−Managing outside contractors to provide basic and detailed engineering support for the site
−Documenting safety near misses / variances from policies & procedures
−Filling an operating minimum staff position

Participate
−Working with operations and maintenance teams to maintain reliable and safe systems while improving production rates, efficiency, yields, costs and changeovers
−Working within a team to develop and implement new technologies, procedures or instruments 
−Assisting with completion of incident reports and after action reviews, as required
−Working within a team in order to achieve team and company goals and milestones
−Taking part of team and company meetings as required. 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

EXPERIENCE
Required
- 5+ years as process field engineer 
- 5 additional years of experience in operations;
   o   Process development and continuous improvement
   o   Hazardous materials, chemicals or biological systems
   o   Safety
- Leadership experience

Desired
- Manufacturing
- Commissioning commercial scale systems
- Advising on new technology
- Risk Management 

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, but not Civil)
Desired
- Master degree

KNOWLEDGE
Required
- Manufacturing operations and engineering
Desired
- Biological processes, dewatering, chemical processing, and synthesize technical information

SKILLS
Required
- Computer software: MS Office / CAD
- Presentation - capacity to persuasively and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers
- Communication - capacity to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
Desired
- Computer skills: Wonder Ware and/or process simulation software
- Fluency in Spanish
