As Head of Product you will lead the team that understands how we should deliver excellence digitally and deliver this seamlessly in products people want to use.

You will own the roadmaps and user experience for all Octopus products. You will work closely with the senior management to create the product vision in line with the commercial strategy of the business. This will involve using quantitative and qualitative feedback to continually enhance existing products as well generating ideas for new products. You will understand the overall business strategy and challenges, as well as the external market and competition, and will ensure that the product strategy is continually optimised to address all of these factors.

It is critical in this role to have a track record in running product teams in commercial environments with multiple stakeholders. You should have the vision for what brilliance in product looks and feels like, and the perseverance, eye for detail and management skills to achieve it.

Managing a team of approx. 10 product managers and working closely with the engineering, QA and IT Ops team leads, you will play a key role in continually improving our ways of working to ensure that the product development process delivers the maximum impact for the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with the senior management team to develop the product vision
  • Overall responsibility for the success of the products by setting, monitoring and continuously improving product KPIs
  • Creating and maintaining prioritised roadmaps for all product groups (via the Product Managers), personally owning responsibility for ensuring all interdependencies between roadmaps are being correctly considered
  • Working with the Engineering, QA and IT teams to continually improve the delivery process and maximize velocity
  • Continuing to develop a culture of integrated product development, supporting and championing close working relationships with the engineering, QA, IT and commercial teams
  • Build close relationships with stakeholders in the commercial and operational areas of the business and ensure products deliver the required objectives
  • Developing a culture of prioritisation and subsequent benefit realisation using measurable objectives and KPIs
  • Regularly researching the competition and the wider market in general, identifying areas of opportunity, change and improvement
  • Working with the business to develop internal system strategies, including buy vs. build decisions and legacy system upgrades
  • Management, leadership and mentorship of a team of Product Managers
  • Support the development of a healthy internal culture that retains key employees and encourages their professional development
  • You will have led product teams and come with a toolkit that you can adapt to the team at Octopus
  • You have achieved demonstrable success in building and developing products
  • You have demonstrated great leadership skills and are comfortable managing teams and looking after people’s career growth
