You will lead a team of UX researchers, user testing experts and designers to impact front-end experience that supports millions of customers and billions of page views each month.


As the Head of UX your role will be to help us fulfill our vision of being customer centric, and to design an unparalleled customer experience that blends the best discovery shopping and intent shopping. You will be a thought leader for the User Experience community throughout Coupang. You’ll have the opportunity to think big, exercising continuous innovation and a bias for action, coupled with thoughtful experimentation. The ideal candidate will be a systems-level design thinker and visionary, with strong customer instincts and outstanding design intuition, who will provide vision and direction setting to a team of designers. Ideal candidates are self-starters who can collaborate with product owners, and engineers in a decentralized organization structure.


At a high level, their objectives will be to:

  • Manage a central UX team responsible for user testing, design standards, design patterns and brand design
  • Create and run a cross-company customer experience bar raiser program that ensures that we are delivering superlative customer experiences.
  • Lead new creative and holistic thinking across diverse product releases, platforms, and devices; drive the direction, style, and methodology of design and usability.
  • Create cohesion and consistency in UX design by provisioning an elegant design language that unites a growing family of retail/3P/Travel products and features, while continuing to nurture and evangelize a fervent culture of invention and innovation.
  • Foster Coupang’s culture and principles within the group while setting new standards in executional and operational excellence.
  • Recruit, assess, hire, develop, and retain an organization of outstanding UX personnel, often representing Coupang’s design community externally.
  • Actively influence the career development of decentralized set of designers across the company, by regularly contributing to and leading training programs, performance evaluations and cross-organizational design events.



  • Bachelors/Masters degree in Design, HCI, Human Factors, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in User Experience Design
  • 5+ years of people management and leading teams.
  • Exemplary analytical skills and high judgment. Ability to tie UX to business objectives
  • Experience designing for innovative mobile experiences.
  • Experience providing direction to deliver on priorities and build repeatable, sustainable processes that support operational excellence.
  • Experience designing for Korean web or application. At least familiar with the Korean language and the letters.  
  • Fluency in best practices for User Interface Design, Content Management, Social Media, Information Architecture, and Interaction Design; practical knowledge of User Centered Design processes and lifecycles; ability to provide and effectively communicate strategic and tactical recommendations based on quantitative/ qualitative data and optimal Design practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the latest design concepts, emerging technologies, and other developments in the user experience field.
  • Effectiveness in working across organizational boundaries to influence and deliver results.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
  • Able to translate concepts into concrete depictions to clarify ideas and advance collaboration based on shared understanding.
  • An innovative spirit and an enduring sense of humor.



  • Experience working in a global context, with a proven ability to consider the worldwide impact of products.
  • Experience working with a software engineering centric culture
