We are seeking a Tax Technology expert to implement tax technology solutions to support our Income Tax Reporting & Compliance function. Data, data, data! This individual will lead in the design and drive data-process robotics and automation, working with Oracle IT and Corporate Accounting teams to establish and implement the required tax logic, test the output, and establish and review the required data needed for income tax reporting requirements and processes. While the broader tax team is based in Seattle and San Francisco, this position is remote and will report to the Tax Reporting Lead. 

Our tax team also works with Stripes around the globe to ensure not only that our tax obligations are met but that we assist in inventing products that our users find useful. We are looking for a talented individual who will work collaboratively across the organization to lead the design of state-of-the art systems for Stripe’s US GAAP income tax reporting and tax compliance responsibilities.  This individual will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to explain tax concepts and requirements in a simplified fashion to non-tax people. The ideal candidate will have experience in a high-growth technology company partnering with various functional teams and other members of the tax department and with knowledge of operating in a large-scale, data heavy, dynamic environment.  

You will: 

  • Lead the design and implementation of tax technology and other automation solutions supporting global income tax compliance and reporting
  • Develop tools, processes and procedures with a focus on building for scale, automation and accuracy
  • Review existing processes and systems to identify improvements while converting the findings into system requirements and necessary changes
  • Work closely with business partners to understand and define requirements, objectives, and processes to drive strategic application efforts
  • Support the preparation of ASC 740 income tax provision for US and international subsidiaries, including the company’s tax related financial statement disclosures
  • Support the company’s US and state income tax compliance and payment obligations

You have:

  • 5+ years of progressive relevant experience in public accounting and/or internal tax department
  • Enthusiasm to deep dive into data in cross-functional efforts with Accounting, Treasury and FP&A
  • Knowledge of Accounting for Income Taxes under ASC 740 and financial statement disclosures relating to taxes
  • General knowledge of US GAAP with proven experience in the quarterly close process and exposure to accounting systems (Oracle ERP preferred)
  • Hands-on experience in building and implementing “Best Practice” tax accounting and tax compliance processes for scale
  • Hands-on experience with tax provision software such as OneSource Tax Provision or Longview
  • Hands-on experience with designing and building workflows in Alteryx
  • Practical hands-on experience in the preparation of US tax compliance obligations, including analyzing and documenting tax positions
  • Advanced MS Excel capabilities and an ability to manage significant amounts of data
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to communicate tax issues and requirements clearly to non-tax team members and work effectively across functional teams
  • Excellent project management, organizational and documentation skills, including the ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Empathy, humility, and some comedy

Nice to haves:

  • Bachelor's Degree or professional qualification in tax, accounting, finance or related field required. Computer science, information technology, project management certification is a plus
  • Experience working in a high-growth, rapidly scaling environment
  • Industry experience at a multinational organization; experience working in technology, payments, or financial services is a plus
  • A willingness to work with a diverse crew of tax nerds who care deeply about Stripe’s tax issues and each other
