Invitae’s Collaborations & Business Development team is focused on commercial collaborations that drive high test volume, health systems and population health initiatives or research, as well as commercial entities and large strategic employers who want to transform their employee health benefits programs through Invitae. As a member of the Business Development team, you will be critical in achieving Invitae’s vision of helping organizations leverage genomic data and insights in an individual’s healthcare journey. You will collaborate with high-profile health systems, governments, and other institutions -- from initial engagement, to go-live and production, and throughout the entire customer lifecycle -- to help them leverage Invitae to achieve their goals.

You will also bring Invitae to medium-sized and large employers within your assigned geography, helping them understand the value of Invitae to their employees’ health and their benefits strategies. We’re looking for a thoughtful, results-oriented relationship builder who can execute flawlessly at every stage of interaction, from the sales process, to understanding our partners’ needs, working closely with senior executives, and translating a clinical product and experience into impact for our customers.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop new customer relationships from zero to close -- sourcing, structuring, negotiating, and contracting
  • Work with our current clinical customers and potential new customers to identify opportunities to leverage population-scale genomic data and helping scope a deployment to deliver on these transformative outcomes
  • Establish rapport with current clinical customers and non-customers (especially at senior levels) and advance Invitae’s interests in conversations
  • Within assigned geography, lead all efforts across key named employer accounts, including prospecting new opportunities, driving opportunities through qualification and business case, contracting, and successfully transitioning customers to our Client Services team
  • Design and execute a territory strategy for your assigned geography/accounts, to include events, partnerships with key stakeholders including local employer consultants and brokers, and direct outreach
  • Own the end-to-end evaluation process for all of your opportunities
  • Cultivate relationships with existing and new channel partners, including leading benefits consultants
  • Maintain strong pipeline organization
  • Work effectively across all internal Invitae teams and stakeholders
  • Represent Invitae at regional and national conferences

Although this position is multi-faceted and its responsibilities are not rigidly defined, the following are a core set of abilities, skills, interests, and experiences that are required for success in this role:

  • Top performer with a demonstrable 5+ year track record of exceeding quota
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Business required
  • Results driven and action-oriented approach to your work, with the ability to think strategically and be detail oriented
  • Proactive and intellectually curious, and a creative, flexible, and analytical thinker who can quickly change directions and problem-solve through new situations
  • Demonstrated success in project and client management requiring highly developed analytical abilities and thought partnership, as well as practical and action-oriented leadership
  • Understanding of complex organizational challenges and a proven track record of delivery and rigorous follow-through
  • Repeated success designing and delivering presentations to senior executives and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the healthcare ecosystems (payers, providers, patients), population health, clinical decision makers, etc.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish is highly preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 35%
  • Willingness to make a two-year commitment to this role

Personal Attributes:

  • Creative, flexible, analytical thinker: Is an exceptional, analytical, conceptual thinker with the ability to shift quickly between high-level and detail-oriented thinking.
  • Low ego: Leaves ego at the door
  • Communication: Exhibits outstanding communication, presentation, collaboration, and influencing skills. Able to credibly and compellingly present and debate recommendations with senior leadership internally and with C-level.
  • Comfort with lack of structure: Embraces constant change and ambiguity. Invitae’s organizational structures are constantly changing and evolving and you must be comfortable with the unknown and want to be part of the building process.
