Investment Director (f/m/d), Clean Energy | APAC

Your main responsibilities

  • Own, drive and lead
    • origination, evaluation, due diligence, structuring, execution and closing of renewable energy opportunities across APAC.
    • project development (land, grid connection, permitting, power offtake) of acquired projects to ready-to-build status, and monitor progress against approved timeline, budget and quality targets
    • project finance activities to reach financial close, and subsequent handover of the asset to ACE APAC’s in-house asset management team for construction
  • Direct leadership responsibility for one or more dedicated Investment Management professionals (analysts, associates)
  • Close collaboration (functional leadership) with dedicated Project Development professionals in Aquila’s local offices across APAC
  • Key focus areas are solar PV, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), acquired in different stages of development, from greenfield to later stage developments
  • High proficiency in financial modelling (oversee creation, testing and further development of integrated financial models)
  • Lead the investment approval process and investment committee presentations for your transactions
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders including Transaction and Corporate Legal, Engineering (Design and Execution), Finance, Power Market/Trading Team, Compliance, Tax/Structuring, Risk, Valuation
  • Maintain a strong industry network and working relationships, good stakeholder management to liaise with different external / internal teams
  • Ensure all business activities are carried out effectively and in line with internal and external policies, procedures, governance, and regulatory frameworks
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and guidance to junior members of the Investment & Development team

Your qualifications and experience

  • Excellent academic credentials within business-centric studies
  • Minimum of 12 years professional experience in an infrastructure investing environment, ideally, with experience in at least one of the three relevant asset classes (solar PV, wind, BESS)
  • Proven experience and successful track record in similar roles
  • Extensive experience executing [renewable] project development transactions in APAC
  • Functional experience: Investments, Project Development of renewable energy assets, Project financing, PPA negotiations/Power Markets, M&A. Specific investment experience in wind power assets is an advantage
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and cross-cultural interpersonal skills including the ability to build trust and relate well with a wide range of internal and external parties (including senior management, advisors, local communities, and partners)
  • Experience in drafting transaction documents like early-stage documentation, such as letters of intent, non-binding offers and term sheets and negotiating NDAs and other transactional agreements (such as SPAs and development services agreements)
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit with sound understanding of investment analysis, revenue generation, cost optimization, and balanced approach to risk/reward
  • Experience in managing complex project development cycles with aggressive targets and short deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and challenge projects financially (capital structuring, financial modelling, and financial advisors) and technically (consultants, technical experts)
  • Excellent track record of working with utilities, regulators, and developers across APAC
  • Strong understanding of the importance of implementing environmental, social and governance standards into the evaluation and execution of project development opportunities
  • Excellent presentation skills, ability to collaborate cross-functionally and navigate and work in cross-border organizations.
  • Authentic leadership style, including team building, coaching, and mentoring
  • Excellent analytical and synthesis, problem solving & decision-making skills
  • Highest standards of professional ethics, integrity, and judgment with demonstrated ability to handle sensitive matters and clean record in conduct, ethics, and compliance
  • English fluency required (verbal and written). Other APAC and/or German language skills are an advantage
  • Willingness to travel across the APAC region, including North and Southeast Asia, Australia & New Zealand
