At Joss & Main, the Buying Interns are responsible for data collection and operational aspects of daily sales and site curation.  Daily projects include collecting information for products in events, conducting supplier operational reviews, curating and maintaining assortment on site, ensuring all site information is accurate and updated, and assessing category performance.  This role provides significant exposure to the event production process, as well as the maintenance and development of a fast-growing ecommerce site.  Top performers will have a chance to progress their career further into our buying organization or into a career in operations and process management.

 

The most successful Buying Interns are those who are driven, tenacious, outgoing, and have an equal passion for business, style, and process.  Members of the team must be expert multi-taskers, have an acute focus on detail, and manage their workload in a highly organized way.  A typical day includes reviewing product information for accuracy, working with Buyers on creating strong, top-performing events, and supporting the on-going upkeep and improvement of the site.  You will work with members of the Buying team, Merchandising team, Operations team, Creative team, Pricing team, Marketing team, and Product team.  These teams are essential to maintaining a successful site and ensuring all operations run smoothly and profitably.

 

As a Buying Intern, you are a consummate learner. You have an insatiable need to understand how things work, coupled with an innate desire to challenge the status quo. Each event category runs like a mini-business, and our buying teams are tight-knit, collaborative and entrepreneurial in spirit.  The ability to work well in a team, and work until the job is done, is a hallmark of our most successful Buying Interns. 

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Act as key supplier contact for all information gathering, with keen focus on accuracy and completeness of information
  • Forge and expand strong supplier relationships
  • Partner with event production team to ensure timely, accurate, and profitable events
  • Assist buyers with negotiating terms (e.g. inventory, pricing)
  • Develop and maintain industry knowledge; stay on top of category and market trends
  • Act as end to end owner of the event submission, and coordinate across cross-functional teams
  • Support buyers when analyzing and reviewing category performance

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Articulate, persuasive communicator with strong negotiating skills
  • Goal oriented, entrepreneurial self-starter, gregarious, has presence (not shy)
  • Powerful attention to detail, dissatisfied with any mistake, takes ownership
  • Savvy, quick thinking and comfortable in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Proven ability to thrive as part of a team on individually
  • Able to juggle many projects at many stages of development at one time
  • Highly organized
  • Proficient in excel
  • Familiarity with SQL a plus
