Lead Welder (2nd shift)

Lead Tig Welder

Responsibilities:
  • Welding assembly and fabrication on various medium to large scale structures and assemblies.
  • Oversee day to day team needs (i.e. parts, tools, consumables).
  • Monitor and implement area safety requirements and improvements.
  • Train personnel on proper procedures and develop skills of team members.
  • Set and accomplish daily production goals in accordance with overall department delivery goals.
  • Effectively communicate with engineering staff and planners to achieve build efficiency.
  • Identify and task team members appropriately to their skill level.
  • Modification, repair, assembly, and installation of the rocket and spacecraft.
  • Check work after completion of each operation in job and/or completed job to ensure it is complete per drawing.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in approved manner.

Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working within the subassembly team within SpaceX.
  • Minimum of 3 or more years of experience with TIG welding.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience welding aluminum.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Proficient in plasma cutting as well as oxyacetylene cutting.
  • Robotics Welding experience a plus.
  • Must pass visual exam per AWS D17.1.
  • Experience with AWS D17.1 and D1.2 preferred.
  • Experience in overhead cranes & Forklifts preferred.
  • High-volume manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, including: Powerpoint, Word and Excel.
  • Must have experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must be able to work 2nd Shift (4:00pm-2:30am)
  • Must be able to work overtime hours and weekends, as needed.
  • Must be able to lift a min. of 25 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability to travel to different sites, as needed.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours min.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and be able to maneuver in tight spaces.
