LGBT Video Producer

BuzzFeed News is looking for an innovative go-getter and jack-of-all-trades to create compelling LGBT video content for the web, as well as other digital platforms. A successful candidate will be equally enthusiastic about serious breaking news and fun, viral human interest stories. This person will be well-versed in the national LGBT conversation, from politics and public policy to entertainment and lifestyle. We’re particularly looking for someone with expertise in and sensitivity for documenting trans and genderqueer experiences. They will be a native of the digital and pop cultural landscape, knowledgeable about the latest social media trends and well-versed in what’s being liked, shared, and obsessively discussed online.


  • Creating videos from conception to production, including short, text-based breaking news and longer-term documentary projects
  • Researching and reaching out to participants for talking-head videos and one-off profiles
  • Collaborating with the LGBT Editorial and News Video teams on identifying and carrying out stories with the potential for maximum impact
  • Breaking down trends across channels and platforms to experiment with new means of video distribution


  • 1-3 years experience creating and editing video content   
  • Experience with cameras (must be comfortable using DSLRs), audio and lighting equipment, and Adobe editing software
  • Comfortable being on camera occasionally
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently, while keeping a cool head under pressure
  • Journalism/news experience preferred
  • Well-connected in the world of LGBT influencers; trans/genderqueer sources a big plus
  • Must be an internet junkie with a deep understanding of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, etc and what content works best on each
  • Versatility and flexibility — you’re excited to experiment
