Manager - Exterior Systems

The Exterior Systems leader will have ownership to manage the design, development and engineering activities for vehicle exterior systems, components and assemblies – including bumpers and crash cans, front and rear glazing, aerodynamic devices, wiper and washer systems, fascia’s, front-end modules, exterior mirrors and bright-trim work.
The Exteriors leader will ensure compliance of the system and component designs with all vehicle attributes, regulations, functional and structural requirements, quality objectives, program milestones, deliverables and specific targets (performance, cost, weight, safety, timing, etc.).
The Exterior Systems leader you will develop unique, innovative and advanced engineering concepts and system designs - continuing these through release and launch support.
The Exteriors leader will report to the Body Engineering Director.
Desired Skills and Experience
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, or Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or similar from an accredited university
Minimum of 6 years of experience in design, development, releases and implementation in production of exterior components, class “A” panels, mechanisms and systems, with a strong background in exterior trim and outfitting, safety structural components, aerodynamics, glazing and sealing areas. Specific knowledge with sheet metal forming, stamping, hot forming for high strength alloys, extrusions, castings, joining, body shop operations, product launch and body exterior architecture development Experience with various body exterior materials with emphasis on light-weight materials: plastics, composites, Aluminum, ultra-high-strength steel, etc. Knowledge of CAD systems (hands-on and/or supervision) and design documentation systems (PLM, PDM, BOM’s, releases, etc.). Experience with injection molding process and interface with exterior systems and components suppliers. Experience with managing and leading engineers, designs and contractors. Able to support overall vehicle development gates and prototype and production builds. Able and willing to travel domestically and/or internationally. Able and willing to travel and support production launch.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering specialized in aerodynamics, advanced composite technologies, mechanisms, machineries and/or manufacturing. Previous planning and program management experience. Knowledge with Design for Six Sigma, Lean Concepts, DFMEA and PFMEA. Highly motivated individual with excellent communication and organizational skills. Positive attitude and constructive approach to interfaces with others and problems solving.
