The Junior Software Engineer will report to the Senior Director of Software Engineering who is Boston-based and will focus on the MassChallenge Accelerate Platform, a Django based web application that makes the coordination of the thousands of organizations and people associated with MassChallenge possible. We will be expanding the use of this system to our international programs and plan to make it available to a broader community of organizations with similar needs. The software engineering team is a global Boston & Jerusalem based team that will work closely to support all locations including the local Israel-based team.

Job Responsibilities:

Implementation & Deployment

  •        Collaborate with company staff in the maintenance and development of the MassChallenge Accelerate Platform.
  •        Work with various web-based software development tools (GitHub, JIRA, Amazon Web Services, Vagrant)
  •        Develop appropriate web-based APIs for related systems.
  •        Understand basic web protocols, standards, and technologies (HTML, CSS, JS)
  •        Use and promote standard python coding conventions (PEP8, pylint).
  •        Participate in code reviews, automated and functionality testing, and other aspects of our quality assurance process.


  •    Fully participate in a scrum-based, agile development team.
  •    Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and software development best practices.
  •    Share knowledge with the company’s stakeholders with regard to newly developed features.

Position Requirements:

Formal Education & Certification

  •      Undergraduate/Bachelor’s Degree in the field of computer science or equivalent software development experience.
  •      Scrum certification not required, but a plus.

Knowledge & Experience

  •      Demonstrated ability to create web-based services that meet consumer needs or solve business problems.
  •      Hands-on experience coding in more than one currently popular web application framework.  Django a plus.
  •      Knowledge of web and python standards.  Experience with frontend UI, Javascript frameworks, and/or SQL a plus.
  •      Summer internships or previous programming work experience a plus.
  •      Experience contributing to open source projects a plus.

  •      Excellent written and verbal English required, conversational Hebrew for informal communication with the local team a plus.

  •      Ability to excel in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
