The Development & Engineering (D&E) team drives the technology, innovation and new development of data center infrastructure across Vantage’s companywide portfolio. D&E evaluate new sites, drives cost and schedule in line with corporate goals and serve as subject matter experts across the entire project lifecycle from concept through commissioning. The team collaborates with Sales, Operations and management along the way. D&E also work hand in hand with the Construction team to come up with a vertically integrated design and ensures new and existing standards and designs are executed effectively. Vantage is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to be part of the design production team that leads design and engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for high-level schematic system design, specification development, submittal review, design document review, management of design consultants, oversight of installation, participation in commissioning, and transition to operations. Regular collaboration and coordination is required with electrical and BMS designers/contractors as well as the construction and procurement teams. You will be presented with complex engineering challenges and be asked to bring them to resolution. You will ensure projects meets standards throughout the process.

You will provide technical engineering information and assistance to ensure that new data center spaces comply with the project requirements, all engineering standards, applicable codes, and specifications. Knowledge of mechanical packaged equipment, chilled water equipment and piping, DX systems, central utility plants, and air-side and water-side economization as they relate to designing state-of-the-art data centers. 


  • Participate in all aspects of mechanical design and engineering including conceptual design, basis of design, scope of work, development of construction documents
  • Drive project level tasks and milestones assigned by the project management team
  • Create and/or review project plans and specifications
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for technical reviews including submittals, RFIs and engineering studies/analyses
  • Interface and lead mechanical design consultants and design-build contractors on a per-project basis
  • Visit job sites for field investigations and coordination meetings
  • Visit manufacturing plants for Factory Witness Testing (FWT) of critical equipment


  • Project specifications, schematic drawings, design and construction documents, submittals, Sequence Of Operations (SOOs), test and balance reports, CFD analysis, commissioning scripts
  • Attend project design team meetings and interface with various team members
  • Review, comment, and process project plans and actively participate in approvals
  • Support Site Operations to troubleshoot /tune existing systems
  • Provide oversight and review of project plans, equipment, and system submittals
  • Coordinate with internal engineering teams across all disciplines to ensure products delivered to Operations are streamline and optimized to meet the needs of the business across all functions
  • Attend project design team meetings and ensure the constructed product meets engineering standards and specifications
  • Work closely with Operations to find a balance between cost-effective solutions & operational sustainability
  • Provide project coordination and commissioning support
  • Utilize engineering analysis programs and professional judgment to analyze the following: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies, Rack layout optimization, Psychrometric chart evaluation, ASHRAE extreme annual design day temperatures and relative impact to supply air temperatures, Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) calculations, Management of internal and external design teams and design consultants


  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university or college
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) preferred
  • 5 years of experience in mechanical systems design
  • Data Center and/or Mission Critical experience is preferred
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Excel, and Word
  • Understanding of Revit, BIM, Bluebeam, Navisworks and CFD modeling software environments
  • Versed with building codes and ordinances, including ASHRAE
  • Plumbing and fire protection infrastructure
  • National and international travel required and is expected to be 10 to 15%, but may increase over time as the business evolves

Salary Range: $95-110K BASE + BONUS
This position is eligible for company benefits including but not limited to medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and AD&D, short and long-term disability coverage, paid time off, employee assistance, participation in a 401k program that includes company match, and many other additional voluntary benefits.Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
