We are looking for an experienced, visual-minded producer to join the Vox.com video team and produce videos across all of our distribution platforms. Successful candidates will have skills in a variety of areas -- graphics, animation, filming, and editing -- or the desire and demonstrated ability to acquire those skills quickly. Producer will be tasked with writing, shooting and editing 2-10 minutes videos for our YouTube channel, Facebook page and Vox.com itself.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Researching and pitching in-depth explanatory video ideas
  • Writing and recording voiceover
  • Generating creative ways to illustrate ideas, processes and concepts
  • Filming and/or animating based off of scripts and interviews
  • Gathering assets from archival sources
  • Working both collaboratively, with writers and other video producers, and independently depending on the video
  • Editing the piece together

Skills required:

  • Ability to tell complex stories in simple, understandable ways
  • Comfortable working in new mediums and formats -- with a willingness to experiment and to continue to improve production skills
  • Proficient video editor
  • Experience as a visual storyteller -- using either a camera, motion graphics, or animations, with some degree of experience in all three preferred
  • A deep understanding of the online video landscape

Depending on the candidate, this position could be responsible for creating quick-turnaround, visually-driven 90-second videos for Facebook, or for creating richly-animated 7-minute explainers for YouTube. We are growing quickly and are looking for talented video makers in all formats.

If this sounds like you, please send us a resume and cover letter. In your letter, please include at least 3 links to your past work (journalistic and/or educational examples preferred), and pitch 4 video stories:

  • One you'd make in a day
  • Two you'd make in a week
  • One you'd make in 2 weeks

This is a permanent, full-time position based in DC or NY.
