Since entering the renewables market in 2010, Octopus Renewables has grown to become the largest investor of solar power in Europe, and a leading investor in onshore wind. We currently manage a global portfolio of over £3bn renewable energy assets. The operational portfolio includes over 300 energy generating companies, delivering revenue in excess of £250m pa. The operational activities include solar power parks, wind farms and gas fired peaking generators. 

Our energy investment and asset management team of c.70 professionals is one of the largest and most experienced in Europe. The team is structured to support our rapid growth ambitions and long-term ownership of energy assets. 

About the role  

We are looking for an experienced Asset Manager to take a key role in managing the assessment of the technical and contractual parameters of new acquisitions and managing new assets through the transaction process and onboarding them into the Octopus Renewables’ portfolio.  

Reporting to the Solar Asset Director in the Octopus Renewables Asset Management team, she/he will advise and be responsible for the management of new deals as they are onboarded in the operational portfolio. She/he will be required to manage a range of stakeholders to ensure each project meets the necessary standards required and allow for the smooth transition of new assets into the operational portfolio. The role will be London based with travel to Europe required on occasion.

Outline of responsibilities  

  • Work closely with investment teams to identify contractual and/or commercial risks with new deals, in the process preparing the asset management teams for asset on-boarding  

  • Development and management of due diligence tools and the asset risk register throughout the process. 

  • Manage asset management team engagement in the process, ensuring appropriate procedures are in place to allow for the efficient assessment of new projects 

  • Maintain and enhance the risk monitoring framework in place, designed to identify any issues early and resolve them in a timely fashion 

  • Design and implement processes to provide necessary rigour and enable appropriate technical and commercial input from the asset management team. Including stage-gate and checklist creation and management 

  • Review contractual structure on new deals to ensure deals are appropriately structured for ongoing operational management of the assets 

  • Management of relevant technical advisors throughout the process to ensure scope is focused on critical risks 

  • Perform initial risk assessments of new counterparties through a pre-qualifying questionnaire process  

  • Summarise key areas of risk in new deals to senior management to support investment process   

  • Prepare new assets for onboarding into the operational portfolio, including dataroom creation and management, system preparation and awareness of key personnel 

  • Support internal Octopus fund reporting 

  • Good experience of renewable energy industry, with a particular focus on solar 

  • Significant knowledge of typical project contractual frameworks (including SPAs, PPA, O&M and EPC contracts), the regulatory environment and how the industry operates   

  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously 

  • He/she will be an excellent communicator at all levels, particularly when translating technical information for non-technical teams.  

  • Flexibility and “can do” attitude

  • Able to critically examine and question information from a variety of sources 

  • High commercial and numerical acumen
