Packaging Engineer

Job overview:

The Manufacturing Operations – Packaging is responsible for the ongoing support and internationalization of eero products. Their role starts from Concept through mass production and continues on until the product is no longer supported by eero warranty.  A broad scope is required, which spans numerous aspects of manufacturing and operations, supply chain, including printing die presses, color controls, process control and qualification, packaging raw materials, factory quality reporting, product configuration, and new process qualification.  

What you'll do:

  • Lead eero’s packaging solution new product introduction by bringing designs to reality from prototype through mass production.  Specific goals include collaboration with ID and PD to deliver a packaging structure and out of box experience. Responsibilities include driving issue resolution, root-cause/corrective actions, qualifying manufacturing process, schedule, cost and quality
  • Drive DFx during early design phases to maximize packaging decisions relative to cost and manufacturability. Aid in materials selections
  • Build and communicate project schedule and status updates to various stakeholders, including team members and executives within eero and OEMs
  • Engage with supply chain partners to develop, qualify packaging products to production
  • Coordinate builds and qualification tests prove packaging meets quality and functionality
  • Participate in packaging vendor selection
  • Act as Agile Administrator for your products – owning BOM accuracy, updating top level BOM structures and working with cross-functional teams to control subassembly drawings, data sheets, specifications, CAD, and artwork files in document control
  • Develop rapport with partners and detailed knowledge of "how the factory works," its capabilities and limitations
  • Always push the leading edge of innovation and excellence in eero products and program management practices
  • Support coverage in other products in the region. Travel 2-3 trips per quarter to Asia to drive issue resolution and/or support build/ramp activities
  • Exceptional ability to build relationships, build cross-functional teams and exert effective influence in a matrix organization
  • Attention to detail without becoming lost in the details

We're looking for someone with:

  • 5+ years in consumer retail packaging industry possessing knowledge of varying raw materials for retail packaged products and retail point-of-sale displays.  Expertise in CMYK printing process, process qualification; experience with internationalization of products will be a plus
  • Resident expertise in thermoform, sheet forming, molded pulp, foldex box, greyboard wrap.  Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA), and applying 5M+E are familiar tools
  • Familiarity with management of end-to-end program
  • BS degree in Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering; Master will be a plus
  • Exceptional communication skills via brevity and details
  • Understanding of Asia business culture.  Mandarin Chinese language spoken and written is a plus
