Platform Engineer

At GIPHY, we’ve build the world’s largest animated GIF search engine and redefined how people search, discover, create, and share GIFs. Since our start we’ve developed an all-in-one GIF platform with multiple product offerings, touching millions of users per day and serving billions of GIFs per month.

We’re looking for a Platform Engineer who is passionate about designing, creating and delivering highly scalable distributed services.  The GIPHY platform is the core infrastructure that powers both internal and external products, including, Giphy mobile apps, several major, native Social Media integrations, hundreds of indie developer apps, our own API and more. Our platform services billions of request and traffics petabytes of data per month."

About the role:

  • Design and develop available, performant services enabling millions of people to search for and create gifs via public-facing APIs.
  • Research, prototype and verify evolutions to our systems and infrastructure.
  • Architect the right kinds of flexibility to enable extensibility and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with Product and Business Development to realize new products and features.
  •  Contribute to our processes around development and deployment as Giphy becomes service-oriented.

Basic Qualifications

  •     BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent work experience (5+ years)
  •     3+ years of relevant industry experience
  •     Experience working with high scale systems
  •     Strong understanding of one or more programming languages
  •     Familiarity with *nix and its tooling
  •     Willing and able to contribute to reviews and design discussions
  •     Sense of humor and love of GIFs

Bonus Qualifications:

  •     Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  •     Experience designing RESTful APIs
  •     JVM experience
  •     Start-up experience
  •     Familiarity with Agile principles
