Population Geneticist, Applied Genomics

Helix is enabling consumers to gain insights into their genomes through our high quality partners.  Scientific support for our partners helps us ensure that consumers and partners are able to access and offer responsible and scientifically valid content. 

We are looking for curious and engaged Population Scientists to join our Applied Genomics team.  As part of this team, you play many roles as we help our partners translate the latest science into engaging genomic insights.  This role is ideal for a geneticist with strong scientific, statistical and computer science training with an interest in gaining experience in product management and business development while maintaining technical expertise in population genetics.   

As a Scientist on the Genomic Products Team you will:

  • Keep up to date on the latest science in several scientific areas and be the expert within the organization
  • Work with our design team, business development team, and Helix's partners to develop ideas for new and delightful consumer genomic products based on novel discoveries in ethnography, forensics and population genetics
  • Evaluate new applications submitted by developers in the Helix ecosystem
  • Perform novel statistical analysis to support product development with Helix’s partners
  • Translate scientific concepts into accurate but easy-to-understand language for non-scientists 


  • PhD in statistical genetics, population genetics or equivalent work experience
  • Entrepreneurial spirit; willing to contribute in multiple areas
  • Problem focused and able to drive tasks to completion
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities
  • Ability to critically read the scientific literature and summarize findings

An ideal candidate will also have:

  • 2+ years of industry experience
  • An insatiable curiosity about multiple content areas
  • Computer science and/or machine learning background
  • Experience with C, a scripting programming language and R/ Matlab
  • Up-to-date knowledge of and ability to use genomic annotation and interpretation tools
